Elecare or Neocate?
One more question ladies. Is there a difference in the two as far as ingredients go. I didn't know if I should try one over the other first. His nutritionist says she has a can of Elecare in her car she can give me tomorrow if that's what we decide to try. I'm still waiting to hear back from his pedi. Usually she calls me back personally on her lunch break. Thanks!

Zack born 09/28/07 @ 31 weeks. Dx silent reflux @ 6 mo. Now not so silent. Switched to Elecare @ 9 mo. On Prevacid 15mg 1x daily. Looking to stop the puke and gain some lbs.
Puke stopped about 24 months and he's learning to eat...very slowly.
Still on prevacid and periactin.
Is this for an infant under 12 mo? My son has been on Elecare since about 9 mo and had no problems with it. Neocate smells horrible...the older the child is that harder it might be for them to take it...otherwise, I think they are comprable corn based amino acid formulas (someone correct me if I am wrong). I think they are comprably proced as well (both are really expensive!) I think Neocate does have flavor packets you can get, though! Elecare for over 12 months smells like vanilla shake...it's not half bad!

He is 31/2 months old. He is on Alimentum which is smells horrible as well!! He did not like the Alimentum at first but got use to it. Oh dear, well are some babies allergic to the corn? What would you do if your child is allergic to corn and proteins? You would think that could easily be so as corn is a big allergen. I dont know if my son has allergies but he is a BIG candidate and it's worth a try. My oldest son had severe food allergies. He was skin pricked and blood work. Showed he was allergic to milk, eggs, tomatoes, malt, yeast, grapes, and oats. No environmentals. He had no problems as an infant on breastmilk and Alimentum though. Just showed up at 12 months when table foods became main source of nutrition. He was sick all the time until he was diagnosed. We put him on a strict diet and he was a different child. He has since at 5 years old outgrown a lot of them. Thanks! Still waiting to hear back from the pedi. Crossing my fingers they can get us to Cincinnati soon.

Lactose and soy allergies/ intolerances are WAY more prevalent than corn allergies, BUT, that said, we were tested and came up negative (trust me, with all our puking, I wondered if we were!) I'm not sure what is available for kids with lactose, soy and corn allergies. I'm sure some mom will chime in...it's amazing the wealth of knowledge and experience on here! I hope something works for you!!

Neocate is not gross anymore!!
I got a chance to visit the company and taste test it. The unflavored stuff is still horrible but the new juice boxes are perfectly fine. They taste like strong juice. None of that fake milk taste that is not even close. There are several new flavors like orange and pineapple. I don't know if the flavors are available for infants or just toddlers. Call the company and ask. Their help desk folks are very helpful.

Sara, Mom to Isobel 10/01/08 Dx Silent reflux @ 6 wks. Prevacid 22.5mg split in 2 doses. Pepcid .5ml twice a day. Diagnostically confirmed milk protein, egg and cat allergy. Suspected corn, pea and squash allergy. Trialed Alimentum and Elecare without success, currently on Isomil Advance RTF with moderate success. Barium Swallow and UGI 3/08 Pondering a ph probe and endoscopy.
I'd love to find a dairy, soy and corn free formula! The closest I can get is eliminating 2 of the 3. Alimentum RTF is soy and corn free (if you don't count soy oil) and Baby's Only Organic Soy Formula is dairy and corn free. Please, if anyone finds a formula appropriate for infants that eliminates all three let me know! I'm a bit desperate!

2 healthy daughters (knock wood) Cory (16), Kim (11) & Eric (4) diagnosed with e.e. (scoped 8/08), GERD & severe food/seasonal allergies, asthma. Cried non-stop first 17 mths. of life Found out he is allergic to cow's milk, soy, eggs, and peanuts. Takes Prevacid, Neocate One Plus & Flovent.
Hi. I'm glad you are going to try one of the elemental formulas, because it definately sounds like it could be an allergy issue (esp. because of your older son). My son had all kinds of problems (even on hypoallergic formula Nutramagen) until we switched to Neocate. He would scream non-stop, arch, spit up, etc. before the Neocate. Even my then 12 yr.old daughter said he was like a new baby. I'm only mad because it took 17 mths. to get the right diagnoses. It could have saved us all a lot of pain & stress. Good Luck. Ellen
