Splitting the Solutab and Saving Half
We have been using Prevacid for 4 months now. My son gets a 15mg Solutab and we dissolve the whole tab in 5ml of water and give 4ml of the solution....so he basically gets 12mg. We need to split the tab in half and give a dosage twice daily. I want to save the other half for the pm dose, but the manufacturer says to toss it after 15 mins? I cannot possibly afford a double prescription. Does anyone else split the tab and save the other half for the second dose?

Zack born 09/28/07 @ 31 weeks. Dx silent reflux @ 6 mo. Now not so silent. Switched to Elecare @ 9 mo. On Prevacid 15mg 1x daily. Looking to stop the puke and gain some lbs.
Puke stopped about 24 months and he's learning to eat...very slowly.
Still on prevacid and periactin.
I always did (I dont split it anymore, but I did for a long time. I split it and put the second half into a ziploc bag every morning.

I am Jacky, mommy to Joslyn Olivia (April 2008) and Katelyn Isabel (November 2009).
Joslyn was dx'ed with Silent Reflux with breath apnea at 5 days old. VERY SCARY!
Katelyn is a spitter reflux baby. Started at 3 days old as well. (Both were/are breast fed.. symptoms came on when my milk came in).
Joslyn has been reflux free since she was 12 months (suffered poor weight gain for a few months) and Katelyn is now on Zantac... waiting to see if it works.
when Jos was on it we did the same thing. half was in the morning the other half we saved until night time

Thanks!
I thought it would be fine. I know that I'm not supposed to save any of the dissolved solutab, so I was confused as to why it would be a problem to save the dry half. I asked because the doctor recommended the compound, which is $179 as compared to the solutab at $116. I have a $500 deductible to meet before I have a $45 co-pay. I have a ton of the tabs and I thought it would be a waste to toss those out. Thanks Ladies!

Reflux (mostly) resolved at 14 months
and Addison born 8/17/09. Currently exclusively bf and on 7.5mg Prevacid
We always just kept the other half in the pill splitter or in a small pillbox. The main thing is to keep it dry. We never had any problems with it.

You'll be much better off with the solutabs rather than the compound, so I'd definitely stick with that.

This is our dd, Alessandra. Dx with GER 10/07. Ran the gamut with meds and now done with them (crossed fingers). Using magnesium, probiotics and prebiotic supplements. With the exception of teething and general sassy attitude, all is well now. They really CAN grow out of it!
We also saved the split one - as we were doing it in the summer and I can't stand AC, I wrapped the cut half in foil and sealed it in a plastic bag to keep out humidity and light. They still work fine.

doctor first!
