reglan/e-mycinRE: reglan and e-mycin...
How often is it typically given (#x/day) ? Before Every meal/snack?
Do most kids accept or refuse them with regard to taste, texture (think/grainy/etc), volume at each dose etc...????
It's tough to get my LO to take her PPI 1x/day, so just curious how bad the reglan or e-mycin would be. I hate to include more negative oral experiences in our day!
And how bad can the side effects be with either drug? Are they all temporary and stop when stop the meds, or are any permanent?
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! AGAIN!

Jessica, Mommy to Jedd, severe reflux, severe food and oral aversions, Finally G tube free!!! VSD repair 4-24-07 (open heart surgery), hypospadias, repaired 3 times and Ear tubes Visit Jedd at his CB site: www.caringbridge.org/visit/jedd
|Reglan: it was a pure liquid NO compounding. Tasted kinda nasty though. Yes I taste ALL of Jedds meds..LOL It was kinda bitter more or less. He took it 5X's a day. Four times 30 mins. before meals and once in the middle of the night in the tube. Well, they all were going in the tube...LOL|
EES: tasted like bubble gum, GREAT tasting actually. Took it 4X's a day 30 mins prior to meal time.
We saw better drastic emptying with Reglan but Jedd was a horrible screaming monster on it...it was truly horrid. We lasted 16 weeks. Had NO other side affects. We think he was having he irritability side affect.
EES worked but not as well as Reglan did for him.
We could actually drain him gastrically with his tube and a HUGE huge syringe so we new for a fact that Reglan worked better. Too bad we couldn't have stayed on it htough. That is why we struggled on it for soo long before DXing it. ....:(
I would do Reglan in a heart beat. WE didn't even bat an eyelash at starting it. YES it has some side affects but if you catch them (the eye twitching and such) right away and stop the drug and give Benadryl until the symptoms stop, you will be just fine.
I *think* Jedd's doses were: Reglan 1.5cc's 5X's a day. EES 2cc's 4X's a day. I can't remember his weight on them. I know the Reglan dose was WAY high though for his weight at the time, He was on the max for his little body could take. Reglan is totally weight sensitive. So it needs to be adjust OFTEN!!!! So keep an eye on it if you decided to try it.

Zack born 09/28/07 @ 31 weeks. Dx silent reflux @ 6 mo. Now not so silent. Switched to Elecare @ 9 mo. On Prevacid 15mg 1x daily. Looking to stop the puke and gain some lbs.
Puke stopped about 24 months and he's learning to eat...very slowly.
Still on prevacid and periactin.
|Hi there, Reglan was an orange liquid. I mix it woith a little water and he drinks it right down. The water just makes it not so thick..otherwise he would gag. I give it half hour before feeds 4x's per day. It works well for him, he still pukes a lot, but its immediate puke...the 3 hour later puke finally stopped! He was on 2ml 4x's a day at 16-17 lbs...he was just bumped to 2.5ml at 19 lbs. No side effects at all, but ditto what jessica said...they are easy to catch and they stop when the drug is discontinued...
Erythro didn't work for Z at all...but he drank it down the same. Ours was orange as well.
I wouldn't blink an eye telling a mom to try Reglan. If it works you know it pretty quick...and you can see side effects pretty quick. It's so worth it if it works!|
