7 days enough for Prevacid to work for 9yr old
I see a lot of posts about this, my 9yr old has been on prevacid 30mg once a day for 7 days, shouldn't he be seeing some relief? I was thinking about trying twice a day. My younger son is on Nexium, and it only took 3 or 4 days to help. Thanks, Debbie

Kathryn, Pager Volunteer and mommy to Emily Mia 02/04/07. 3 years old with GERD. 30mg Prevacid and Pepcid AC. Mylanta needed for flares. Failed prilosec med switch. Tried and failed many med weans but GERD and pain are well controlled. Functional constipation. Reoccurring SBBO. Suspected IBD or autoimmune disease. Resolved issues: MSPI, CSID (acquired), Stage 2 kidney reflux, Chronic diarrhea.
Audrey Meadow 06/20/08. born 34/35 weeks. Still b/f and eats everything! ftt and chronic constipation.
it actually depends on the amount of damage that he has or how his body reacts to the medication. If you read the leaflet in the medication box it says you can see releif in 3 days - 2 months depending on the condition. i think form this board i have seen about an average of 2 weeks for prevacid to work.

in the mean time you can ask about tums and mylanta for his pain. but make sure you give them at least an hour after his dose of prevacid. Also what you can do is you can ask your dr about a med like zantac to give him to hold him over until the prevacid kicks in. it is just a short term bridging med and you can wean off in a month more or less.

i hope he feels better soon!

Thank you, I think I'll ask again about the zantac, she said no originally, but that's ludicrous to me. When my other son was little they doubled up his meds to get him started on his nexium.

Yeah, ya need a tad longer. Sorry. It's hard to. Depending on if there is any damage you may want to ask to have tha tdose changed. There are alot of tiny kiddos who are on that dose. But I wouldn't do anything with out talking to the GI.

I'd also do a split dose of Prevacaid or add in an H2 on top of things.

Check with your
doctor first!
