sharlin, mom to aviah, smith and faye (4/08)-dx with acid reflux (mostly silent) at 6 months.
Looking back I suspect she's been dealing with this for most of her little life. She's tried about every formula in the book and is currently on liquid alimentum, which has really helped a lot with her fighting feedings. We also tried zantac, but she became MUCH worse, and so we've been trying to work on helping her through her diet. she's also taking probiotics, and i'm hoping to get her eating some solids more regularly.
ear achesi know that reflux and ear aches can go hand in hand, and it seems it has with my little one. she's had ear aches forever. but we are getting past the reflux, and she still has ear issues. she never spits up, aspirates or growls anymore (for 1-2 months) and yet the ear troubles persist.
i looked up ear stuff online, and i guess middle ear infections can act like this. never severe or with a fever, but constantly recurring with more mild pain. apparently this can happen if they never really get over the infection. it goes away (for us a week or so) then resurfaces for 1-2 weeks.
have any of you experienced this after the refluxing was better? is it something that will clear up on it's own after awhile (it's never looked bad enough at the dr. to get a perscription, but i think i'm going to talk more thoroughly through it next time i go.)
thanks for your thoughts in advance.

Andrea: Mom to 3 crazy girls!
Abby (4/06) Prevacid 7.5mg (evening), MSPI, goats milk (currently trying to wean off Prevacid)
|I would def ask about trying an antiobiotic or take her to an ENT dr. Abby had reoccuring ear infections (not ear aches) after her reflux was undercontrol. She ended up with ear tubes and has been fine since. Hope you find something that helps.|

This is our dd, Alessandra. Dx with GER 10/07. Ran the gamut with meds and now done with them (crossed fingers). Using magnesium, probiotics and prebiotic supplements. With the exception of teething and general sassy attitude, all is well now. They really CAN grow out of it!
|Just a thought - teething can cause ear pain as well (teething also aggravates reflux - go figure) I'd ask the doc - our ped gave us some pain drops for the ears, which helped a lot. Allie only had one infection, so abx were useless for us (the infection was caused by vomit lodged in her ear - it was gross) Never hurts to have a specialist rule out other issues though.|

Donnessa, mom to Halley born 3/10/07
Reflux (mostly) resolved at 14 months
and Addison born 8/17/09. Currently exclusively bf and on 7.5mg Prevacid
|My dd's ear infections actually worsened after her reflux resolved. She rarely ran a fever when she had them. I agree with Andrea - I'd try to get into an ENT or at the very least onto some antibiotics. If the infections continue to persist, tubes may be an option. They have been a lifesaver for us...no infections since Sept :-)||Check with your
