Zack born 09/28/07 @ 31 weeks. Dx silent reflux @ 6 mo. Now not so silent. Switched to Elecare @ 9 mo. On Prevacid 15mg 1x daily. Looking to stop the puke and gain some lbs.
Puke stopped about 24 months and he's learning to eat...very slowly.
Still on prevacid and periactin.
tired
I don't really have anything new to say...so feel free to ignore this post, but if I don't get this off my chest I'll never get any work done this morning. Zack's puking full force again. I have no idea why, he's on the Reglan and it's not even working nearly as well as it was last go round. What's next...seriously, this kid is soooo not a good candidate for a fundo since he loves to shove his fists down his throat to gag himself...and he wretches. So is there going to be an answer??....he's 16 months old and barely eats anything besides formula. How is he ever supposed to get better or not fear food if we can't control the vomit. Last night it took 16 oz of formula to get 6 to stay in. Each morning I make two bottles...totaling 10 oz...he drank all 10, but in between 2 oz servings ended up puking up 5. I'm just tired...he's so small...what is this doing to him? Is this going to affect brain development? What will more invasive testing prove. I just don't know what to do next. I'm so tired and I feel so defeated. I really wanted to have a second child, but I'm not sure I can handle it now. I was hoping a year would be ample time to get Z's issues under control...or at LEAST in the right direction, but things just get worse and worse. I can't see any light at the end of this tunnel. Some days I feel more positive, but positive just seems stupid right now.

alex's mom
Alex was dx with silent reflux at 3 weeks old. Previously on Prevacid SoluTabs 15mg daily, now on trial of no medication. Was thought to have oral aversion, saw feeding specialist who says he's just not interested in food--no aversion at all. Slowly coming around to food. 15 months, 19lbs, 7 oz.
I just wanted to send you BIG HUGS! You are an awesome mom to struggle with the daily vomiting and I know you are doing the VERY BEST for Zack. I'm sorry that the Reglan is not helping. Have you tried Zofran? It's so tough to see your little one struggle. You guys are in my thoughts. Good luck and I hope he starts to turn around.

Audrey Meadow 06/20/08. born 34/35 weeks. Still b/f and eats everything! ftt and chronic constipation.
has he had an upper GI to look for pyloric stenosis or another physical abnormality? even an endoscopy is very helpful. is his dr concerned?

I remember 2 times i was told by both my pedi and GI that going silent reflux to puking is not normal that something is wrong. Emily was a primarily silent refluxer, of course she spit up from time to time but she would only throw up if i gave her milk or soy. when she was 6 months old her had a kidney infection and was throwing up just a bit more then spit up. then when she started foods she puked which was a sign her body could not handle sucrose(sugar) we had an endoscopy and an enzyme panel and we avoided sugar.

i think and this is just my opinion that if he is in pain when he pukes or if it is effecting his weight gain to where he is gaining nothing -no small gains over time on his own curve- i think that a trip to the GI to at least talk about testing options is a good idea.

I am Jacky, mommy to Joslyn Olivia (April 2008) and Katelyn Isabel (November 2009).
Joslyn was dx'ed with Silent Reflux with breath apnea at 5 days old. VERY SCARY!
Katelyn is a spitter reflux baby. Started at 3 days old as well. (Both were/are breast fed.. symptoms came on when my milk came in).
Joslyn has been reflux free since she was 12 months (suffered poor weight gain for a few months) and Katelyn is now on Zantac... waiting to see if it works.
no not my future son in law! hehe

I am so sorry you are in the dumps today. I wish there was a miracle cure for Z! I am sending hugs and puke free prayers

he's had an upper GI, no abnormalities. He's probably going to get an endoscopy next. He's not a miserable puker..2-3 minutes later, hes totally fine. It's pretty much IMMEDIATE...he drinks, pukes, drinks, pukes, drinks and that's it. but it's EVERY feeding. I'm tired of putting daycare through this, I'm tired of laundry. We have a good GI who treats conservatively. I actually like him alot. He doesn't rush straight to surgery and that's important to me. Poor Z...poor me. phhhhhh Don't worry, Jos, Z would NEVER puke on you.

so sorry you are going thru all this. I remember thoes days like it was yesterday. Carring a suitcase full of extra clothes crying because I couldn't hear my LO laugh without fearing the inevitable vomit to come. I still to this day cringe when she laughs too hard because I fear what it does to her insides. The worst for me was the docs saying that the meds they could give her may never end the vomiting just neutralize the acid so it didn't cause damage. Hang in there and get as much help with feeding times as you can. At one point my DD would scream every time I would pick her up because(the docs said) she associated me with feeding and the pain that came with it. Many times I still feel she does and hates me for it. So if at all posible let someone else handel feeding times. Your lo is so beautiful. Love thoes big eyes. Good luck and lots of prayers.

Patti, mom to Max (3/04) with EE and chronic sinus issues; Lucy (6/07) with reflux
I am so sorry to hear that Zack is still having issues. The puking is what put me over the edge, too...I just couldn't take the stained clothes, vomit stains and bad smell one more day. I know that testing is sometimes scary, but I would encourage you to talk with your GI about your concerns. Testing does not always lead to surgery. We had an endoscope done for our son when he was 12 months old and it was literally a lifesaver...he was diagnosed with EE based on the biopsies they took. After cutting out offending food, he is a happy, healthy almost 5-year old...something I never thought would happen. When our daughter presented with symptoms similar to our son's, we didn't hesitate to scope her at 6 months. Her tests came back negative for everything except damage from straight reflux, but it was comforting to know there was no major reason for the excess laundry and carpet cleaning :) I hope you can find a solution that works for you.

I am sorry Zack is having such a tough time. I can totally relate to your frustrations. I am sending hugs your way and will keep praying for answers.

We were terrified to have the colonoscopy done because the risk of puncturing the intestines or colon is 1 in 2000. I am thankful however that we finally went through with it and at least know where some of Meggy's pain in coming from.

If they do an endoscopy, colonoscopy might be a consideration I would have for Meggy at the same time, knowing what I know now. If they do an endoscopy, they can find out if he has eosinophilic disease and began other treatments if needed.

Has he been to an allergist?
