This is our dd, Alessandra. Dx with GER 10/07. Ran the gamut with meds and now done with them (crossed fingers). Using magnesium, probiotics and prebiotic supplements. With the exception of teething and general sassy attitude, all is well now. They really CAN grow out of it!
Sleep help
As I know most of you have had these problems, I'm hoping for some tips. Allie's sleep was pretty good from 6 months-13 months, but went on a dramatic decline over Thanksgiving (I'd love to blame my MIL, but it's not entirely fair.) I can set a clock to her waking time - between 11-12. It's been escalating to the point of waking in hysterics, and calming down is a process that includes hyperventilation. No asthma or allergies, she's not ill, her ears haven't been checked, but they're not bothered by me messing with them, no diaper rash, no fever, etc.....

The only thing we've changed is d/c'd her magnesium supplement since we ran out and our pharmacy hasn't gotten any in, and I can't find the liquid locally. I know mg is necessary to the CNS regulation, but didn't think Allie was THAT deficient.

We have a bedtime routine (run like crazy, dinner, bath, books, bottle, then try to segue into sleep). Her reflux is well controlled and doesn't bother her at all anymore, and I rarely hear the silent reflux anymore. Any tips? I've tried Motrin for teething, Maalox at bedtime or the night waking, Benadryl to get her back on schedule, rocking, holding, and sleeping with her.

Sara, Mom to Isobel 10/01/08 Dx Silent reflux @ 6 wks. Prevacid 22.5mg split in 2 doses. Pepcid .5ml twice a day. Diagnostically confirmed milk protein, egg and cat allergy. Suspected corn, pea and squash allergy. Trialed Alimentum and Elecare without success, currently on Isomil Advance RTF with moderate success. Barium Swallow and UGI 3/08 Pondering a ph probe and endoscopy.
This sounds dumb, but how loud are your neighbors? My dd was waking at 5:30 and it took a while for me to realize that the neighbor left for work at 5:30. We live in a townhome so when he slammed the door and beeped his car alarm it would wake her. Our solution was a white noise machine at a ridiculously high volume.

I am Jacky, mommy to Joslyn Olivia (April 2008) and Katelyn Isabel (November 2009).
Joslyn was dx'ed with Silent Reflux with breath apnea at 5 days old. VERY SCARY!
Katelyn is a spitter reflux baby. Started at 3 days old as well. (Both were/are breast fed.. symptoms came on when my milk came in).
Joslyn has been reflux free since she was 12 months (suffered poor weight gain for a few months) and Katelyn is now on Zantac... waiting to see if it works.
great thought sara!

Mom to Matthew, 01/16/08, GERD baby, has been on Zantac since 2 mos. Aidan, his twin brother, no GERD. Max-ed out on Zantac at 1ml-3 times/day, and switched to Prevacid 15mg split tab 08/20/08. Switched again to 20mg Prilosec 09/18/08 due to Prevacid's restlessness/headache side effects. Reflux was out of control again and had to switch to 10mg Nexium 02/11/09. Good result so far.
Any change in her nap pattern? Could it possibly her transitioning from 2 to 1 nap that causes her to be overtired at night? Pray she'd feel better soon. HUGS!!

Neighbors really aren't bad, and Allie sleeps through our dog barking. I've considered the white noise machine, so I'm starting to take a look at them again. Her naps are pretty standard, and she just isn't ready to drop the afternoon nap at all - we've tried going to just one (and we've tried dropping one, then tried the other) and we've tried no nap, and she's just a dang terror regardless. AND dropping a nap isn't helping the night sleep. I'm calling the MD tomorrow if adding the Mg back doesn't help - I got a call from the pharmacy that they got it in, so I'm running out to go get it. Thanks ladies! I'll try anything at this juncture - I've heard applications of frying pans are wonderful, given the right cricumstances (and I mean for me and dh, not the munchkin)

Julie - I have three children. My youngest Katie is my refluxer. My first Ben was very colicy and is ADHD. My middle Jakob is pretty easy going. Katie had it bad as a baby no sleep for two years. She was on Nutramagin, Prevacid and Zantac. Thought we were through it but after age three it came back big time. After her scope she was put on Prevacid 45mg a day and mylanta as needed. Scope was in Sept. Showed damage in stomach and espophogus. It took about 7 months of medication and Reflux diet for her to start feeling better.
We LOVE the white noise machine!
