flavoring for Neocate?
My daughter was just switched to neocate infant formula. I tried her first bottle about 2 days ago with high hopes that this was going to solve all of our eating problems. Right away she refused the bottle and spit it all out. Since that day she will not eat anything from her bottle (even when I switched her back to nutramigen). She has an ng feeding tube so she has been okay (we just put it in there), but I really would like to see her eating the neocate so we can see if she doesn't have a possible milk allergy. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do? I have tried mixing half and half, but still she refuses. I think I remember reading something about flavoring, but I am guessing that is for older children (she is 6 months old).

Nestle quick
With my DD we were told to try vanilla and strawberry nesquic(sp) powder. I almost want to say that we found it had milk in it but not 100% sure. They do make flavorings for it which I believe you can order online. I also think they made a flavored form of it but that may have been for older children. DD was never able to tolerate the neocate. We started and are still to this day using rice milk which we were told wasn't the most nutricious option but it was all she tolerated. To this day the docs still tell us there is no milk allergy but her symptoms get majorly worse with the slightest ammount and she is the same way with bananas. HTH We were also told that babies that start on breast milk or other formulas have a hard time switching because it tastes so terrible. I know the smell turned my stomach. I will try to see if I can find the info on the flavorings for you and get you a link.

It does say the flavorings are for over a year in age but you might want to consult with your doc on that. With DD because we used the rice milk and she was FTT we added something that was a liquid calorie booster and she was on the rice milk starting around 8 months. I hope theese help you like I said talk to your doc. Another big rescorce for us was DD's feeding clinic team. They were able to keep one of our biggest fears (G J tube placement ) from becoming a reality. Around here most of the childrens hospitals have functional feeding program. You could ask for a referral from your doc. It may help.
