Rory's Appointmentlol, I don't know why I expected anything different. Once again, I am left feeling *silly*. She weighed 19lbs 6oz, though, which means she has gained back what she lost, but she weighed 19lbs 3oz four months ago on the same scale. Her height was 79 cm, so around 31 inches, which is more than I had her measured at myself. She still has dropped in percentiles for height, but she is still on that chart, which is encouraging. The discouraging thing is that now she is not on the weight-for-length chart at all, and my previous understanding was that this indicated malnourishment. But her GP sees no reason to refer her to a pediatrician. She says Rory has already had the full work-up for ftt. Yeah, at 12 months she had a stool sample, and had bloodwork done at 6 months. She's 22 months old now. So, she very reluctantly agreed to run a cbc and check her iron, but she said her colour looked okay and the black circles under her eyes usually indicate allergies, not energy loss. Luckily, we see the allergist NEXT WEEK!! Woohoo. I was told the wait would be 6 months, but according to the GP any child with suspected food allergy gets pushed to the front of the line. So, I'm holding off on her bloodwork in case the allergist orders some too, that way it is only one traumatizing day for her. I just HATE that she makes me feel irrational. She said her 3 1/2 year old only weighs 27lbs and she worries too, but it is needless worry. She had the nerve to ask me what *I* think is wrong with her! Do you think she has an overactive metabolism? Do you think she isn't absorbing her food? I don't bloody well know. All I know is that she has no ass, prominent ribs and a giant stomach, black circles under her eyes, excema, and is not even on the weight-for-length chart. How can I possibly accept that this is okay? I guess, though, pending the results of our allergist visit, I just have to accept that she is going to be tiny, and that the rules of charting to not apply to her. Don't get me wrong, I am very happy she doesn't have health problems. I just hope it stays that way. I said to the doctor, if she continues to grow at this rate, 2lbs a year, she will weigh 25lbs by the time she is five, and she said she will probably gain 20lbs in the next three years, because most kids under 5 weigh less than 40lbs. It made NO sense, but whatever. She also said, "you know all the high cal foods, so there is nothing new I can tell you...does she eat avocado". Um, she ate 5 bowls of tomato soup for lunch yesterday, this is not an intake problem. OBVIOUSLY. When she had her last ftt work up there WAS an intake problem, now there is not, which is why I wanted another work up done. Okay, I'm done ranting. Truthfully, I'm just happy at the prospect that she most likely WILL hit 20lbs by her second birthday. That's only 8 oz in 2 months! Yes, she only gained 3 oz in four months, but I am hopeful that if she can avoid the ickies, we will get there. I just hope and pray that the allergist will detect something that might be inhibiting her growth, so we can eliminate and see our baby girl start to really thrive and pork up. :) Thank you for listening. Hugs all around. Congrats on the soon-to-be little one Brenda!!!!

I'm sorry she made you feel stupid and wouldn't send you to another ped. I want to beat the Canadian health system for you. I hope you fall in love with the allergist and he takes everything seriously. Maybe the allergist could refer you to another ped. Wouldn't it be crazy if she had a major food allergy like milk that was making her body not absorb everything she was eating and then she miraculously gains 20 pounds in 3 years. What the BEEP was that doctor talking about my 5 year old has gained less then 10 pounds in the last 3 years. That is so insane. Hang in there this battle is so frustrating. BIG HUGS to you and Rory. Keep us posted on the allergist visit.

This is our dd, Alessandra. Dx with GER 10/07. Ran the gamut with meds and now done with them (crossed fingers). Using magnesium, probiotics and prebiotic supplements. With the exception of teething and general sassy attitude, all is well now. They really CAN grow out of it!
Mama - it's been so hard for you all. Why can't MD's go through "sensitivity training" like the rest of us do? HUGS to you both and bona fortuna with the allergist!

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
Girl, ugh is all I can say. I will definitely pray that your allergist will have some real help for you! Maybe he/she will go above and beyond to get y'all some answers.
It may turn out that you have a squirt on your hands like my Morgan. Thing is, Morgan didn't turn into a squirt till she was older. She was a porker as a baby.
I will tell you that now I can't stand rubbing Morgan's back (I do though) bc I feel her bones. She is very skinny but she's older, healthy, and not off the charts. So I totally understand your concerns. Even if your concerns turn out to be for nothing, at least you'll know.

Donnessa, mom to Halley born 3/10/07
Reflux (mostly) resolved at 14 months
and Addison born 8/17/09. Currently exclusively bf and on 7.5mg Prevacid
I am so frustrated for you. I'm glad that you're getting into the allergist so quickly - hopefully he/she will take you seriously. If she's small, that's fine, but just to say that without any testing seems ridiculous to me. I don't think you are being paranoid at all...keep pushing until you get an answer.
