Julie - I have three children. My youngest Katie is my refluxer. My first Ben was very colicy and is ADHD. My middle Jakob is pretty easy going. Katie had it bad as a baby no sleep for two years. She was on Nutramagin, Prevacid and Zantac. Thought we were through it but after age three it came back big time. After her scope she was put on Prevacid 45mg a day and mylanta as needed. Scope was in Sept. Showed damage in stomach and espophogus. It took about 7 months of medication and Reflux diet for her to start feeling better.
how long on high dose
Anybody remember how long they were on a high dose of prevacid (Katie is also on Mylanta) before they felt like their lo's inflammation/damage was all healed?

Also, with GERD children will they alway have episodes of tummy aches even after the insides are healed up?

How long has she been on the high dose? Do you think the Prevacid could be causing the tummy aches?

She had her scope in September. So she has been on since then. We have an appt. in Feb. and the doctor will (I think) start weaning her. I am scared to start weaning.

The thing is, the tummy aches don't last that long but I FREAK OUT anytime I hear those words. ( I had a bit of a breakdown when she was so sick and wasn't diagnosed for so long.)

It is wishful thinking to hope that I will never hear those words again isn't it.

I can almost always tie it to a food. Like last night she had 3 clementines before bed. I knew it was a mistake but I let her do it.

Or maybe it is the Prevacid causing some of the tummy aches

Ugh!

I would def think that the increased dose would have helped by now. Boy it is so hard when they can't really describe what a "tummy ache" means. Maybe ask the GI about trying another PPI like Nexium.

I don't know about how long it takes, but I hope that you are able to get a solution soon. We try Meggy with her carafate dosing a few times a day for a few days then back off and see how she does.

With Prevacid, I know it is a whole new story. I would ask about Nexium as well. Personally, Nexium did better with me than any of the others.

Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
Hi Julie. Sebastian has been on 45/mg a day of Prevacid since the end of September. There is no talk of weaning yet, and I am sooooooooooooooo scared of when that time comes. Sebastian is too young to tell me what he is feeling, which sucsk, so I wish I could offer you some advice! Hugs.

I am really scared too for any type of wean. I don't want her to ever feel like she did before the medicine.

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

I do really like my GI so hopefully she will have a good plan for us in Feb.

doctor first!
