Sensitive babies...what do you think?
So we've talked about this before, how often reflux babies are very sensitive in other ways as well. But this seems extreme to me...what do you think?

Beside being light, heat, sensory sensitive, Jazzy will : not wear pants with front pockets or major seams as they bother her, constantly tugs at her diaper (I've tried switching from huggies to pampers...not much luck there), is always saying she's itchy, but doesn't have red skin, isn't very cuddly, doesn't like a lot of textured foods (on given days), is always pulling at her clothes, hates wearing scarves, hats, boots, socks, mitts, etc... doesn't like being in a carseat or stroller, feels the tinest bit of anything on her skin (actually had me remove a tiny fluff from her back yesterday...who would feel a fluff??!), hates her hands being sticky or dirty, does not like anyone touching her mouth, her hair (I can't get her to wear a clip) or her ears, teeth.......I could seriously go on and on........ Is this a bit much or what?

Also, she is constantly complaining of leg pain ( mostly left)...I don't know what it could be, except some kids get left sided pain with reflux...but what else?????

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
Maggie is nowhere near that extreme, but she used to be. She still says "hurts me" to everything. She can't stand elastic on shirt sleeves or pants legs. Her car seat straps drive her nuts. Most of the time we ignore her or tell her it's fine and eventually she stops. I remember what Kat posted from dr sears. I was about the difficult child or the high maintanence child or something like that. Maggie is definitely that!

Jessica, Mommy to Jedd, severe reflux, severe food and oral aversions, Finally G tube free!!! VSD repair 4-24-07 (open heart surgery), hypospadias, repaired 3 times and Ear tubes Visit Jedd at his CB site: www.caringbridge.org/visit/jedd
I too was thinking the Sensory Processing Disorder. I'd look into it. And yes I've heard it can cause eating issues due to textures.

Have you tried any brushing techniques to help desensitize her to textures on her skin????

I am Jacky, mommy to Joslyn Olivia (April 2008) and Katelyn Isabel (November 2009).
Joslyn was dx'ed with Silent Reflux with breath apnea at 5 days old. VERY SCARY!
Katelyn is a spitter reflux baby. Started at 3 days old as well. (Both were/are breast fed.. symptoms came on when my milk came in).
Joslyn has been reflux free since she was 12 months (suffered poor weight gain for a few months) and Katelyn is now on Zantac... waiting to see if it works.
we are lucky.... joslyn only has sensitivity to the sun... meaning it bothers her eyes (they are blue) she sneezes when she goes outside (from the sun light) and she will sweat when she sleeps on us. (uncovered too)

She is a snuggle bug..... not too big on someone holding her hands though. I can get away with it more than my dh can.

Adriane Reese 05/16/07; seemingly healthy when born; diagnosed with MSPI, severe Reflux, Apnea, Ashtma, Epilepsy, and severe food allergies(rice, corn, milk, soy, eggs, oats, wheat, beef, chicken, squash, pumpkin, avocado, etc.);On apnea monitor, seems to be tolerating RCF w/carbohydrate mixed in; on Zyrtec, Xopenex, Prevacid
My sis and I were just talking about this this morning. She is early childhood teacher and we were discussing that A may have something else going on. I know there has been a link between Autism and Epilepsy. I am trying to figure out what the link is. Anyway, A does a lot of those things but she doesn't speak much. She barely says single words and even those are hard to understand. I read all of your posts and wonder how it is you can understand what your children are saying. I could always understand Morgan. Even when no one else a can. A will scream all the time. Doesn't want anyone doing anything for her. She would prefer to climb up her changing table than me pick her up and put her on there. Dangerous, I know. When I get onto her it doesn't phase her at all. She won't look away, she won't cry, she doesn't even pout. Anyway, I am going to look at those links. I have the book about raising a highly sensitive child. We picked that out from the beginning but so was Morgan. This is so much more than that.

Brent was dx with Sensory Processing Disorder at around a year old, he did intense occupational therapy for it because it was severe. It did improve a lot with a lot of therapy, deep pressure brushing,swings.. He was terrified of everything, would only sit in my lap, wouldnt play, afraid of heights, toys, roughhousing, climbing, water, scared of getting dirty, wouldnt touch things, oral aversion.

He is still afraid of water,plants/flowers,some toys, among some other things but we have been taking a break from therapy...He gets a lot worse when his pain level increases...

I have 3 boys, youngest has gerd, 18 months of no sleep. Prevacid 2x/7.5 mg thinking of switching to prilosec.
Hi I just wanted to tell you that my oldest, now 9, had sensory "issues" and slowly but surely they became less and less. We didn't make a big deal out of them and helped him where we could (ear protectors from home depot are great). The noise aversions still crop up from time to time but for the most part HE is the noisiest in the house and other noises don't bother him. Just unexpected things like fire alarms bother him.

Is sensitivity to heat, light etc related to reflux??

Alot of the things you've all described apply to my 1 year old son with reflux too.

He has cold bottles and food as is extremely sensitive to heat. He's also always hot, sweaty, sensitive to light, hates his hands being dirty/sticky etc, has never been very cuddly, has to lie in his cot for bottles as doesn't like being held, does like textured food etc.

I wasn't sure if it's just normal toddler behaviour or another reflux issue!
