hematoma with blood draw/Vent
I was horrified, annoyed, and just disgusted with a lab tech here. She had just drawn my blood succesfully and then cut me pulling the needle out. I asked that she be more careful with Meggy, and told her to take her time and use the smallest needle possible to draw her blood.

Then, she literally jabbed the needle into Meggy's arm almost seemed with vengeance. She was fishing for the vein. I told her to remove the needle immediately and have someone else draw the blood. She refused and kept going. I was holding Meggy and could just remove it for myself without hurting her further.

Because of this careless, tech, Meggy has a hematoma on her arm. That is the first time she has cried for a blood draw in over a month, and she has had plenty. She was screaming at the tech. MEAN, BAD, STUPID, and I couldn't correct her or tell her she was wrong. The lady seemed to not care at all and merely commented "U will forget it soon enough Sweetie"

This was with labcorp. I don't know if there is anywhere to report her. We usually go to that particular location because most of them know her and have drawn her blood enough to know that it takes time and patience, and to get it right the first time. It is just frustrating.

Sara, Mom to Isobel 10/01/08 Dx Silent reflux @ 6 wks. Prevacid 22.5mg split in 2 doses. Pepcid .5ml twice a day. Diagnostically confirmed milk protein, egg and cat allergy. Suspected corn, pea and squash allergy. Trialed Alimentum and Elecare without success, currently on Isomil Advance RTF with moderate success. Barium Swallow and UGI 3/08 Pondering a ph probe and endoscopy.
So sorry, that just sucks. Good for her for saying what she was thinking. Sounds like she will be able to stand up for herself. And good for you for asking for another tech! I'd call and ask for the district mgr's number to report her.

Zack born 09/28/07 @ 31 weeks. Dx silent reflux @ 6 mo. Now not so silent. Switched to Elecare @ 9 mo. On Prevacid 15mg 1x daily. Looking to stop the puke and gain some lbs.
Puke stopped about 24 months and he's learning to eat...very slowly.
Still on prevacid and periactin.
DON'T GET ME STARTED ON LABCORP!!!!!!!! I had several tests that Z needed to get...they were horrible. Z is small...his veins are tough to get, I know this, but they BUTCHERED him. Both arms, both hands...and then to top it all off, they let the blood sit, so it hydrolyzed and was useless! I had to get everything done again, but this time I went against insurance and had it done at a children's hospital...so much better. I was so angry!! My kid looked like a heroin addict with all the bruises!

That is horrible, that they put Zack through that. It makes me so mad. I told her if she ever touches my child again, I will have her arrested for assault.

I turn into a monster when people treat her like a number or piece of meat. I stand right there and guard and hold my ground. After an ER visit sometime ago that they stuck her over 15 times, I spoke with hospital adminstrater and made it clear that she wasn't a pin cushion. I told him that from now on,they get one try and they had better get it right.

After that, the only time they took more than one try was when they took her out of my sight for procedures. Then, what was their excuse for her coming back sometimes with 3-4 puncture wounds. She doesn't leave my sight till she is asleep, so they can't say she was fighting it.

ugh, when he was in the hospital, I watched the phleb. try three times and then said "SEND ME A NICU NURSE"...she had it in one try...and the guy had the audacity to be pissy with me...how would he like it if I poked him five times!

LOL, I often think of giving them a taste of their own medicine, but then my senses come back and I know it would be assault, but they assault Meggy who can't defend herself what am I supposed to do? LOL

Julie - I have three children. My youngest Katie is my refluxer. My first Ben was very colicy and is ADHD. My middle Jakob is pretty easy going. Katie had it bad as a baby no sleep for two years. She was on Nutramagin, Prevacid and Zantac. Thought we were through it but after age three it came back big time. After her scope she was put on Prevacid 45mg a day and mylanta as needed. Scope was in Sept. Showed damage in stomach and espophogus. It took about 7 months of medication and Reflux diet for her to start feeling better.
Sorry you had such an insensitive tech. It is hard enough on these kids to get the blood drawn and to have someone like that is awful.

I would most definitely report her to management.

This is our dd, Alessandra. Dx with GER 10/07. Ran the gamut with meds and now done with them (crossed fingers). Using magnesium, probiotics and prebiotic supplements. With the exception of teething and general sassy attitude, all is well now. They really CAN grow out of it!
If you're going to report (at LEAST report that you requested another tech and were refused) then call the main administration office. I can't find the number, but I'll bet if you call billing, they'll be able to connect you.

I HATE it when anyone gets treated like this....ice should help the hematoma thought and help it to start re-absorbing. Maybe take a picture to send with your report? Make certain it's dated.

Oh Engi, I'd be STEAMING...poor Meggy. That's not right. Next time tell the Tech to STOP or you'll sue her/his ass for malpractise/abuse. Tech's are suppose to try TWICE and get someone else if after two tries they can't access a vein.
Check with your
doctor first!
