Green mucousy poop: GMP
Hey Ladies...... My DD (who is 3m now) is having some issue. She hasn't pooped in 5 days. Before that 3 days, then 4 days, then 3 days then 2. All of these recent BMs have been green with copious amounts of mucous. Prior to these last two weeks she had a daily yellow seedy somewhat mucousy poops. The longer the poor dear goes without going the more uncomfortable she is,screaming, not BFing etc.

I should mention that she also has a rash on her face, elbows and legs and that I think this may be allergy related. My GI dismisses this idea because there was no blood in her stool. I eliminated all dairy and soy 6 days ago even though her GI did not think that was neccessary. He last saw her 3 weeks ago and doesn't yet know about the current non-poop situation but i'm planning on calling tomorrow.<\p>

Does anyone have any experience with these types of symptoms? What was your solution?

I should add that she's farting like a mad woman and whoa, are they foul! Her poops are foul smelling too!

I am Jacky, mommy to Joslyn Olivia (April 2008) and Katelyn Isabel (November 2009).
Joslyn was dx'ed with Silent Reflux with breath apnea at 5 days old. VERY SCARY!
Katelyn is a spitter reflux baby. Started at 3 days old as well. (Both were/are breast fed.. symptoms came on when my milk came in).
Joslyn has been reflux free since she was 12 months (suffered poor weight gain for a few months) and Katelyn is now on Zantac... waiting to see if it works.
hey! Well i can offer something here i think! WAHOO!

Joslyn would have what I called cappuccino poops! They were green and froffy. Her GI had never heard of this.... so I contact La Letche League. They said it sounded like a foremilk/mindmilk imbalance. After about a week of correcting my breast milk.. they stopped and turned back to normal.

She is also horribly gases.... has been for most of her 9 months of life! The gas does not hurt her.... she actually thinks it is funny! She sounds like a motor boat most times! hehe

She has a rash on her face from Reglan reaction.

She would also go 5-6 days between poops. Her pedi said bf babies do that. But if she went longer than 6 days to give her a suppository. We had to do that once. (HATED IT!!!!) Hope that helped......

Adriane Reese 05/16/07; seemingly healthy when born; diagnosed with MSPI, severe Reflux, Apnea, Ashtma, Epilepsy, and severe food allergies(rice, corn, milk, soy, eggs, oats, wheat, beef, chicken, squash, pumpkin, avocado, etc.);On apnea monitor, seems to be tolerating RCF w/carbohydrate mixed in; on Zyrtec, Xopenex, Prevacid
These sounded a lot like when A has an allergic reaction to something. I had to completely stop bf because her allergies and the MSPI problem. She was so bad the GI has threatened to go NPO and do IV feedings to avoid the GI system all together. I am glad that we didn't let him do that but the seedy and the mucous sound very familiar. The smell never you never quite forget. So, have they done a stool sample? If not I would ask for one. Also, since the absence of poop for several days is new I would contact the GI or Ped.

Have they done an US or anything to make sure she is backed up or have any malrotation issues?

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
I bet it's the milk/soy. It will take 2wks for all of it to get out of your system. I've also heard many moms here say that blood isn't always seen in the stool. Maggie's poops while I drank milk were so runny...I know exactly what you're talking about. :)

Isobel finally pooped this morning! So we bundled it right up and headed to the GI who said the timing was normal (not for her) but that the diaper contents looked a little sticky. We showed him video of her rash pre diet and he concurred with us that it's at least a milk, maybe a soy, allergy. He recommended milk of magnesia to encourage her to go of she gets fussy from being 'backed up'. Lord knows I never thought I'd be bundling up poop to show someone, much less be excited about said poop.

I did look at foremilk hindmilk imbalance, but her bms are not frothy at all and I already kinda block feed anyway as I have wicked strong let down.

Thanks for the info ladies. If you have any suggestions for non dairy non soy non meat non fish protein let me know. Meanwhile I'll be eating air. On the up side I have lost 5 lbs in 9 days. The things we do for our babes.

Lorenzo b.4/25/07 1 week in NICU w/ aspirate pneumonia from a reflux episode; diagnosed GERD at 9weeks; Used Zantac for 5months. Currently using Chinese Medicine and Craniosacral Therapy. GERD, Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Sensory Processing Disorder. Ask me about breastfeeding a refluxer! Pic: day 5 in the NICU.
I'm glad you got some feedback from the doctor, and I hope the situation resolves as a result. Do beware, however, that over-active letdown can result in green mucousy poop, as well -- even when you block feed. At least that has been the case for us. My DS is 20 months and still has them sometimes, even though I have been block feeding since he was about 4 months old.
Check with your
doctor first!
