mango allergy - OT
I don't have much time and will respond to other posts later. Do any of you have experience with mango allergies? I gave Adriane one because she isn't eating anything but carrots and I have heard it is good for reflux. So, I gave her some tonight. It seems like she is breathing hard. Like her nose is congested. Wasn't like this before eating it. I am itchy and feel like my tongue is a little numb. I have never found a food that I have been truely allergic to. Sensitive yes, not a true allergy. that i remember. Any experience?

That sounds like a food allergy to me. I am allergic to walnuts and my mouth will feel tingly if I eat a small amount (by accident, usually in something like brownies). More than that and my mouth gets raw, itchy and have problems breathing.

Sara, Mom to Isobel 10/01/08 Dx Silent reflux @ 6 wks. Prevacid 22.5mg split in 2 doses. Pepcid .5ml twice a day. Diagnostically confirmed milk protein, egg and cat allergy. Suspected corn, pea and squash allergy. Trialed Alimentum and Elecare without success, currently on Isomil Advance RTF with moderate success. Barium Swallow and UGI 3/08 Pondering a ph probe and endoscopy.
Mango is about the most allergenic fruit out there. Lots of people can't even touch the skin without breaking out in hives. I'd avoid it if your LO has any sort of sensitivities.

Eew, sounds like it to me. I'm wondering...are you thinking of papaya being good for reflux? I've never heard that about mango, but I've heard from many people that papaya is good for it.

Well, what is one more on top of the ? others. I have seriously lost count. We gave her Benadryl and a neb treatment. Her face kept swelling in the night and we gave her a dose of her steriod. I guess we won'g give that to her anymore. So sad. It is so good.

I guess I have never eaten mango before. That seems weird to me. I thought surely in a salad! Anyway, after I made this post i recognized the tongue feeling. It was the way I felt in marketing class in college when the nurse accidentally gave me a double dose of my environmental allergy shot. It is my worst group, molds mainly, and that is the way the reaction started. Got much much worse but I now remember that feeling. It has been a long time! At least 8 years or more since I have had that feeling. Thanks for the info ladies! -Amanda
