Sporadic vomitting and diarreah
Hi Everyone! I usually just lurk, but now I need some advice! My daughter has woken up with an explosive diarreah diaper every morning for the past 10 days. She has also woken up in a pool of vomit about 5 times out of the past 10 days. Her attitude is completely normal, she is playing and as soon as we clean her up, she is fine the rest of the day. We went through something similar two months ago...she would wake up in the morning or from her morning nap covered in vomit and then be fine the rest of the day. The vomitting stopped after about 3 weeks last time this happened. Our ped says this is just a GI bug. I can't shake the feeling that something else is going on, though. No one else in our house has gotten sick either of the instances this has happened. Plus, if it was a GI bug, I would think it would last all day...in fact, she isn't even vomitting every day and she only has one bad diaper a day if that. Maybe I am just being paranoid. Our ped is very understanding and would probably run any test we ask for, but I have no idea what is causing this. Any ideas? Or, should I just stop worrying and let it run its course?

Have you tried to keep a food diary for a while to see if it helps? What allergy testing has been done. My T and B cells are off and I can't remember which way, but I get cyclic vomiting, usually in the morning too. Not sure it is that much though.

My doctor told me that I have a chronic virus. He said that he would tell from the labs.

there is something called cyclical vomitting syndrome. this cycle usually occurs every 6-8 weeks, it keps repeating. Just a suggestion, as I am not a Dr. I would also keep a journal of when this has happend before, and what she is eating. I hope you get some answers...

cyclical vomiting is more of nervous system thing, i think and if she had it, more then likely she would be vomiting all day. I was wondering... have you ever had a sleep study done? if it only happens while she is sleeping perhaps some sort of brain/nervous system things are acting up. I'm not sure about allergies but they are weird things so a look into that too would be interesting.

my dd pretty much always has diarehea. but ever couple months she gets it really bad with gobs of mucus in them. her last bout laster 27 days (even with a cleanout for colonsopy) i asked the GI why is keeps "cycling" (going away and coming back) he said it's not allergies and probably some weird GI bug screwing with her motility. not much other point to that story cept we deal with weird unexplained cycles too LOL

Hi, just wanted to add that with cyclical vomitting, sometimes they only vomit once or twice and that's it, but usually for a couple of days in a row, sometimes up to 10 days in a row. I say this because I know someone with a 2 year old who's had this since she was 6 months.

Kat has reason though, most of the time they will vomit more than just one time.

My Lo also had weird diarrhea cycles too, lots of diarrhea with mucus, then normal, then again....etc and no one knows why either, so sometimes cycles are very difficult to figure out. I hope you find answers soon..
