Mom of Nicholas, born 2/08, diagnosed with reflux at 2 months, on Zantac since then, still hasn't outgrown it
Looking for a good pedi and/or GI in Atlanta
Hi. I am new to the forum. My son has had reflux since about 2 months, and I am growing more and more frustrated with lack of understanding of my pedi. Nick is on breastfeeding and I guess that's why his weight gain has been pretty good. He's sort of taking some solids - when I can get his to eat any. But he hasn't slept well since September - teething, colds etc... Also he has horrible reactions to vaccinations - his reflux worsens big time! However the pedi is totally ignoring my complaints because the weight gain is decent (of course it'd be decent - Nick can breastfeed around the clock if you let him). So, I've about had it with my pedi and looking for a new one. Or alternatively I could go straight to a GI specialist if I knew a good one, my insurance is a PPO and doesn't require referrals. Any ideas how to find a good doctor in Atlanta? Thanks a bunch!

Our 1 year old daughter has silent reflux, hypotonia as well as benign external hydrocephalus. We are currently weaning onto whole milk (we'll see if it works) and she is also on Prevacid 15mg per day.
I had a great one for my daughter when her reflux was really bad. I live in a suburb of Atlanta and this group of GI docs have offices all over metro Atlanta. If you want you can email me at nkj03@hotmail.com and I'll be happy to fill you in. ;)

I won't go into further detail on the forum except to say the only GI we see currently is at Hopkins because we are listened to and taken seriously there. Our thoughts as parents are not dismissed or ignored.

I know that doesn't help you here in Atlanta, but if u want to email me, I will tell u the one's we saw and our individual experience. With both offices for GI we have gone to, we felt they abandoned our daughter's care or gave up on her.

I live about 45 min. NE of atlanta.

I can give u the name of an amazing doctor in Alpharetta. We see her for genetics, but she also does peds. She listened and I mean really listened. She has helped us to the best of her ability both as a person and as patients. She will even email you. We see her for other reasons, but I believe she would give u the attention and time needed. Dr. Vidya

We have tried 4 Pedi. offices so far. I was super impressed with 1 of the docs. but the office was so irresponsible that I decided to take my baby elsewhere.

I am Jacky, mommy to Joslyn Olivia (April 2008) and Katelyn Isabel (November 2009).
Joslyn was dx'ed with Silent Reflux with breath apnea at 5 days old. VERY SCARY!
Katelyn is a spitter reflux baby. Started at 3 days old as well. (Both were/are breast fed.. symptoms came on when my milk came in).
Joslyn has been reflux free since she was 12 months (suffered poor weight gain for a few months) and Katelyn is now on Zantac... waiting to see if it works.
we live in north west GA. We go to the Gi doc next to Scottish Rite. I am not sure if I am allowed to say their name.... but he is good. They are located right across the street from Scottish Rite

I won't say anything negative to you about them, but from my experience there, I would suggest that you talk to what ever doctor you choose and make a plan that someone will cover your child anytime that physician is out.

I would ask who will be covering your child anytime the physician is out, a way of contacting them, and what your doctor wants you to do when u need them and can't get an appt.

I would also suggest asking who will be covering during holidays and vacations. I wish you the very best and hope that you have a better experience than we did.

Check with your
doctor first!
