visiting after a long abscence, struggling with refluxer number three
Well i have not visited here for quite some time but felt the need to reconnect with a support group as i am struggling with my third reflux child. He is now 17 months and we are faced with fundoplacation surgery which will make it three out of three children with this surgery. Infact it will be number four as one of my children have had it done twice. I really want a sleep through the night, badly!!

2 healthy daughters (knock wood) Cory (16), Kim (11) & Eric (4) diagnosed with e.e. (scoped 8/08), GERD & severe food/seasonal allergies, asthma. Cried non-stop first 17 mths. of life Found out he is allergic to cow's milk, soy, eggs, and peanuts. Takes Prevacid, Neocate One Plus & Flovent.
Please get the book by Doris Rapp, M.D. from your library - "Is This Your Child?" Look up the section on that surgery, it may shed some light on the situation and other possible alternatives. Ex. In some cases these surgeries are performed on children who are actually allergic (immediate or delayed-onset) to milk. Ellen

Jessica, Mommy to Jedd, severe reflux, severe food and oral aversions, Finally G tube free!!! VSD repair 4-24-07 (open heart surgery), hypospadias, repaired 3 times and Ear tubes Visit Jedd at his CB site: www.caringbridge.org/visit/jedd
I completely agree with Ellen. Alot of times the surgery is doing needlessly. I am not sayign that you don't need to do it, I'm jsut sayign alot of times it is suggested for kiddos when they are little and the hcild is never given the chance to out grow reflux.

They wanted us to do one our Jedd and we did not agree. Now at 26minths old I would NEVER be able to find a GI or a surgoen who would DO one...LOL

IMHO I'd do a tube first to even avoid a Nissen....a GJ is a good idea even for kiddos how are apsirating to buy them time to grow and heal.

Mary & Nicholas 7-17-03 (non-refluxer)allergies, asthma on Singulair and Flovent & Aidan 1-28-07(my refluxer)Nissen Fundoplication on June 20, 2008, FTT, MSPI, DGE, ear tubes, allergies and severe GERD now currently taking just Prevacid and drinking Elecare Vanilla 1+.
Wow you must have the patience of a saint with three refluxers and 2 with Nissens already. I am sure you already know the pros and cons of surgery since you have done it three times now. We did a fundo on my second child at 16 months and it was the best decision we ever made. He never slept through the night ever and he was sleeping like a champ within days of surgery. He is a completely different child now. I hope you find something that works for your third refluxer. Keep us posted if you decide to do surgery.

have been down the allergy path and he hasnt got any. Had the whole gammet of testing done. If we dont do a fundo, our Kyain is going to end up completely permanently deaf. He has had ear infections in both ears now for an entire year. The reflux acid spray comes up and into his eustatian tubes. He needs help and the fundo is the best quickest answer. Im not scared of the fundo, been through it three other times, im just exhausted and need it to stop.
Check with your
doctor first!
