i was in the same boat, and many reflux mamas here can agree... usually burping DURING a feeding does not work on reflux babies. if i ever stopped to burp my dd emily, (knowing that she was very gassy baby, hoping to alleviate any future pain) she would quit eating, be mad, puke, or all of the above! i know it is good advice to many reflux parents but with us it did not work....

IF she was eating i would generally be happy that she was in the first place. mylicon drops seemed useless against the gas but i gave them after a feeding anyway and once i discovered mylanta... godsend!!! (for us anyway)

i NEVER thought i would be on the other end of this but i wanted to let you know, there is light at the end of the tunnel and i am praying for a safe and happy solution for you and you little one much like the other moms have prayed and hoped for me! *hugs!*

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
Hi! My Mags was a pretty easy case but she was not a good burper either. If I stopped that was the end of the feeding. Most of the time she didn't burp any way. The only way I could get a burp out was to hold her chin up in one hand and pat her with the other. She wasn't a shoulder burper. I could almost guarantee she'd puke some when I did that though. I almost always lined the floor with a blanket when I burped her. Like Kat said, mylicon was useless for us too. For gas I laid her across my lap and rubbed her back. That helped as much or more than anything. It was weird though, around 4mos Maggie's gas pretty much disappeared on its own.

Just know that you're not alone and you can always come here for support.

You know, as I was rereading my post...if they spit up a little when they're burping, it's ok. I guess as long as the spit up isn't painful, it's best to get the burp out. The gas can be painful and cause as much discomfort as acid. I don't know if that helps...just a thought.
