emily had a colonoscopy Dec. 9th. the GI told me he saw visual inflammation throughout interrupted sections of her colon into her small intestine. I was very worried as i first thought of crones disease. The GI nurse called and said all biopsies were normal, so i was a bit confused and the doctor won't call me back. the nurse told me it was probably IBS and to quite giving her tomatoes sugar soda and caffine (none of which she gets!)

do you know if eos. levels are always tested during a biopsied colonoscopy?

did jazz ever have a stool sample? i'm sure you must have researched this but i thought this was interesting that most ESIN. occurs from a parasite emily was tested twice for parasites but i remember the nurse telling me that parasite detection can take up to 4 tries. did they did a biopsied culture of her colonoscopy??

Hi Kat,

Biopsie are not routinely done for Eso. Even if they are done, most pathologist say they require a minimun of 8 different sections. Sometimes eso. can be clustered, so it can be easy to miss as well.

Jazzy's stools were cultured on 3 different occasions, each time with 3 different samples (total of 9 samples). All neg. Her scope also showed inflammation throughout her colon, and her GI said probably nothing to worry about...ya right.

You might be able to get a copy of her biopsie report if you ask for it, at least you can see what was done.

All of Jazz's blood work and parasite/ova tests were all neg, but it doesn't mean that a diagnoses of Eso can be ruled out.

Eso disorderes are often from a repeat exposure to an allergen/intolerance, or it can be an autoimmune response (this is what most Dr. have told me.) Most Lo with Eso. disorders don't respond well to meds for reflux, which for us was another clue. Feel free to e-mail me anytime, bmcpower@videotron.ca. HTH and have a great Christmas!!!
