Kathryn, Pager Volunteer and mommy to Emily Mia 02/04/07. 3 years old with GERD. 30mg Prevacid and Pepcid AC. Mylanta needed for flares. Failed prilosec med switch. Tried and failed many med weans but GERD and pain are well controlled. Functional constipation. Reoccurring SBBO. Suspected IBD or autoimmune disease. Resolved issues: MSPI, CSID (acquired), Stage 2 kidney reflux, Chronic diarrhea.
Audrey Meadow 06/20/08. born 34/35 weeks. Still b/f and eats everything! ftt and chronic constipation.
:(
the day i told the GI nurse sarcasticly "thanks for all your help" (after she told me no meds available and to cut out tomatoes, soda sugar and coffee from emily's diet) wouldn't you know, she magically STOPS having diarehea. and for 4 days she had "normal" consistancy bowel movments.

before the celebration starts, she in it's place, had hard to pass, dark green, really shiny stools. honestly, they were really weird. she had super bad reflux the 4 days she had these stools and couldn't sit still or sleep till she passed them. last night we were up till 2 am until she finally pooped.

she gets violent when she refluxes, she was hitting daddy and biting at me, mylanta seemed to help her for a bit but half hour later she was back to feeling bad until finally 1:45 am she pooped.

today she was back to diarehea and now she has spent the last hour crying in her crib (it is now 2 am).... she will not let me comfort her! :( :(

i can't figure out what in her diet is causing this, is it an allergy, is it an intolerance? all sorts of combinations or treatments and food denials seem to have any effect... how i wish i had a car so i could drive to the beach and sit by the gulf beach like i used to and sit on the cold sand and watch the moon and the stars and only hear the waves...

Just offering some hugs and prayers that you can find out what is bothering her. I don't remember but has she had allergy testing? I know it would be hard since she is older but do you think you could try some time of elimination diet for her? Just throwing out ideas (I am sure that you have already thought of). Andrea

Pictured: G'mom w/3 kids. I'm mom to 1 angel Melissa (dec'd 11/92 - hypoplastic left-heart syn.)
2 healthy daughters (knock wood) Cory (16), Kim (11) & Eric (4) diagnosed with e.e. (scoped 8/08), GERD & severe food/seasonal allergies, asthma. Cried non-stop first 17 mths. of life Found out he is allergic to cow's milk, soy, eggs, and peanuts. Takes Prevacid, Neocate One Plus & Flovent.
I like the beach idea (well, maybe a beach in Mexico). I know it's so hard when you have no clue what is aggrevating the child's system. With my middle daughter, I had no knowledge of allergies, reflux, ee, so her constipation was a complete mystery. She would sit on the toilet for hours. This went on for years. The ped. told me to use Miralax, try to have her go at the same time each day, and other useless cra*. After Eric was born, and I was initiated into a world of serious health issues, I realized my daughter's issues were related to milk consumption. Keep in mind she didn't "test" positive to milk on the scratch test, but she never had a patch test which reveals "hidden, delayed-onset" allergies. So, if you really feel something isn't right, keep looking. It's a crying shame the Drs. aren't as knowledgable as they should be. It stinks that we have to do all the work & still pay them. Hang in there. Ellen

Julie - I have three children. My youngest Katie is my refluxer. My first Ben was very colicy and is ADHD. My middle Jakob is pretty easy going. Katie had it bad as a baby no sleep for two years. She was on Nutramagin, Prevacid and Zantac. Thought we were through it but after age three it came back big time. After her scope she was put on Prevacid 45mg a day and mylanta as needed. Scope was in Sept. Showed damage in stomach and espophogus. It took about 7 months of medication and Reflux diet for her to start feeling better.
It is impossible when they are sick and nobody can help you. I feel your pain and wish I could send you to the beach for a couple hours.

keep fighting. some doctors just plain suck! i hope you can find one to help you.

Sara, Mom to Isobel 10/01/08 Dx Silent reflux @ 6 wks. Prevacid 22.5mg split in 2 doses. Pepcid .5ml twice a day. Diagnostically confirmed milk protein, egg and cat allergy. Suspected corn, pea and squash allergy. Trialed Alimentum and Elecare without success, currently on Isomil Advance RTF with moderate success. Barium Swallow and UGI 3/08 Pondering a ph probe and endoscopy.
I read this from my phone last night right after you posted and I so wanted to respond! I feel for you, I really do. It's unbearable to listen to your LO cry and be able to do nothing about it.

You sound like you need to recharge your batteries, so to speak. It helps me to go and get a massage. It's just an hour but I get my DH to watch Isobel and head down to one of those chain massage places ($39/hr) and relax. It won't help her directly, but having a relaxed mommy is a good thing.

I hope that somehow you're able to find a set of docs that WILL actually help. Remember that 70% is a passing grade in med school, so it takes a while to find the dean's list docs. I think they sometimes forget that WE employ THEM. WE pay their mortgages, car payments and greens fees. We have the right to expect a cooperative care plan.
