I have 3 boys, youngest has gerd, 18 months of no sleep. Prevacid 2x/7.5 mg thinking of switching to prilosec.
How quickly it falls apart!
I thought waking every hour was bad. The past two nights David has been waking every ten minutes. I call that not sleeping. I had him checked yesterday at the after hours clinic- no strep, "just a sore throat". I am the night time parent but I cannot do this by myself! My dh helped a bit last night but really it was too late. I was so resentful. With GER we are stuck in the infancy nighttime sleep/ (no sleep) patterns. Motrin didn't help. We even gave him tylenol cold which has a decong./antihis. and that didn't help. He still had a fever and still woke up every ten min complaining. Has anyone seen anything like this? David is going on 20 months now. I feel like I am dying. He is playing right now. Drooling like I've never seen before.

Dx with silent reflux at 8 months
FPIES, DGE, MSPI. Recently diagnosed with EC (Eosin. colitis and now Primary immune deficiency disease.
Also mom to Nathan. born Jan.20th, 2009, MPI . so far dx with reflux and has an extremely sensitibe GI system. Also dx with primary immune deficiency disease.
I'm so sorry. It's very difficult to deal with this mostly by yourself. Is his fever high or just low grade? Has he been tsted for allergies? or do you suspect that maybe he could be milk/soy intolerant? Have you ever tried maalox or mylanta to see if it's a reflux issue or something else? My Jazzy used to get a low grade fever during reflux flare ups.

I hope you get some answers soon, but if not I would take him in to the Dr again. Keep us posted....

Julie - I have three children. My youngest Katie is my refluxer. My first Ben was very colicy and is ADHD. My middle Jakob is pretty easy going. Katie had it bad as a baby no sleep for two years. She was on Nutramagin, Prevacid and Zantac. Thought we were through it but after age three it came back big time. After her scope she was put on Prevacid 45mg a day and mylanta as needed. Scope was in Sept. Showed damage in stomach and espophogus. It took about 7 months of medication and Reflux diet for her to start feeling better.
I am sorry that you are going through this. Sleep deprivation is the worst! Katie never slept but it was worse when she was teething or had a little virus. My only thing to add to what you are already doing - is at night I only gave her benadryl which is the antihistamine. That helped her to sleep. A decongestant tends to make them more irritable so I would stay away from that at night.

I hope this passes quickly. Any chance it could be a sinus infection? Maybe go to the ped. and have him tested. He may need an antibiotic.

Seamus was diagnosed with Silent Reflux at 3 weeks. Now he is 14 months, on Prilosec and avoiding dairy, soy, egg. Still nursing. A lot !!!
It sounds like teething could be the culprit. Sleep dep is sooo hard..I've been at it for a long time too. I hope tonight is better.

Zack born 09/28/07 @ 31 weeks. Dx silent reflux @ 6 mo. Now not so silent. Switched to Elecare @ 9 mo. On Prevacid 15mg 1x daily. Looking to stop the puke and gain some lbs.
Puke stopped about 24 months and he's learning to eat...very slowly.
Still on prevacid and periactin.
I smell teething...we had a low grade fever yesterday, extreme crankieness, not much eating and lots of drool....fever is gone today and he ate decently this morning (for him anyway). I'm hoping to see a tooth soon...I hate teeth!

Thanks mamas. Last night was slightly better. He slept for one hour stretches. Also, somehow I was more patient, less resentful and more calm. My attitude makes all the difference. David is so boogery. I tried plunging his nose last night and he fought it. The plunger poked his lil nose and made it bleed! Ow! Right now his nose is doing the morning drain. The house is gettinig slimed. Sorry for the visual. I have not tested for allergies yet. It doesn't seem to be that. Early on I did avoid dairy like the plague as my two older Ds had problems with it. But they both have out grown it and I believe David has too. I think this is a bad wicked virus with teething perhaps and of course to top it off, reflux monster! I will try benadry tonight instead of tyl cold. Thks for the suggestions! I so appreciate knowing you all are out there!
