Cooper's nursing again!!!
So, can you tell I am excited about that? Today was such a long day. We just got home and we left this morning at 7. Last night was ROUGH! I think I slept about 4 hrs, dh about the same. Cooper only took about 7oz the whole day of the elecare. But on the drive this morning he took 3oz.

When we got to the GI, they did the full body check and took a naked weight. Cooper weighed a 10th of a lbs (I think it is about an once and a half) less than he did in Oct. That was not good. He had dropped back off the charts for weight, but his height is still in the 75th. The dr is not sure what the cause of the diarrhea is, said there could be lots of possibilities. He thinks something triggered it and it got out of control. He thinks it is highly possible that he has developed a new allergy to something, possibly corn. I think he thought it was silly that I wanted to nurse still, but he is a man. He said if I wanted to and the diarrhea subsides, it was fine with him. But it is bot enough to be his sole nutrition anymore. I know that too, and I really only want to nurse for comfort too. I will be going back off corn, and he will be having elecare 1+ for him main source of nutrition. I am really happy about this. He will have it prepared for 30cal, so he should gain his weight back quickly. I mixed the unflavored with the vanilla this evening and he loved it. We are calling it his milk shake, since nursing is milky.

They also ran an allergy panal. We know this is unreliable, but it is a starting point. He also started him on probiotics. His stools have been much better already today with the changes. I think his system needed the break. We also got the ph results back. They showed some reflux, but not much. This was good and bad. I don't believe he had near the reflux he has at home, b/c he was so drugged, but I know there is improvement, so I am pleased. I told the gi he is having more reflux now, and he said that happens, but "I know he has reflux. no question about it" That was nice to hear. Not that he has it, but that the dr doesn't question me. KWIM? So, it was a great day. Better than expected I think. I am so thankful for all you kind words. I am exhausted now, but I will get on tomorrow and read/update post.

Meridith
Mom to Ethan, born 4/23/08. Diagnosed with Reflux at about 1 month, started medicating with Zantac, which wasn't helpful for us. At about 2.5 months, we started on Prevacid, twice a day, and that is working much better.
Ethan is breastfed and has a few solids that he is enjoying very much.
I am so excited to hear that the Elecare gave him a needed break, and seems to have helped. I am also so excited to hear that you have the go ahead to go back to breastfeeding! My heart was breaking for you yesterday.
I hope you are getting rest tonight.

Picture: This is what happens when you raise a kid on health food and they get ahold of a Coke! Bad mom, that soda is NOT on the reflux diet.
UPDATE: Isaiah is now 12 and off meds! He is doing great, eating again and hopefully will be catching up in the growing department. I am still in the "hoping it sticks" phase, but we're so happy that he's better!
i"m off to bed but wanted to say I'm so glad to hear that things are better! I was worried about you guys :o) Give the little man a hug for me and I'm so glad to hear that things are getting back to normal!

I am Jacky, mommy to Joslyn Olivia (April 2008) and Katelyn Isabel (November 2009).
Joslyn was dx'ed with Silent Reflux with breath apnea at 5 days old. VERY SCARY!
Katelyn is a spitter reflux baby. Started at 3 days old as well. (Both were/are breast fed.. symptoms came on when my milk came in).
Joslyn has been reflux free since she was 12 months (suffered poor weight gain for a few months) and Katelyn is now on Zantac... waiting to see if it works.
oh such great news! I am glad you can bf again! I bet cooper is happy too! Such great news!
