The 12 days of diarrhea
Come on, you know it was funny:) LOL! Now, what isn't funny is the fact that Cooper has had diarrhea for 12 days now. I mean horrible, foul smelling, mucus filled diarrhea. It started when he came out of the OR and he has had it ever sense. A minimum of 6 stools a day. Today, I think there has been 10. He has been completely off solids since friday and is on limited breastmilk and pedialyte(sp). They took a stool culture today, but we won't get the results until Thursday. Until then, he has to suffer. ANyone no what this might be? It isn't a virus b/c he has been around other kids and no one else has it. The GI thought it might be an infection. What do yall think?

Jessica, Mommy to Jedd, severe reflux, severe food and oral aversions, Finally G tube free!!! VSD repair 4-24-07 (open heart surgery), hypospadias, repaired 3 times and Ear tubes Visit Jedd at his CB site: www.caringbridge.org/visit/jedd
I think it's Rotovirus and he probalby got it AT the hospital.

Jedd had ALL the vaccinatins against it and still got it. :( I was told that is was good that he had gotten the vacc. because if not he woudl have landed IN the hospital.

It was also one of those times I was EXTREMELY thankful to have a feeding tube. IT certainly play a BIG BIG part in keepign Jedd at home verses a week IN the hospital.

Oh, and did I mentino that Jedd had Croup at the SAME TIME!!!!

But serisouly, I think it's Rotovirus.

I had thought that might be it, but he hasn't puked, so it made me wonder. I did figure whatever it was, he got it at the hospital. I forgot to say, he has lost almost half a pound in a week. He can't afford that!

*scratching head* I can't remember if Jedd puked more with it than normal considering he puked at that age about 2-3 times per day so it all rolls into one big puke pile...LMAO....hehehehehe

Jedd's diapers were just like that though. Man they could clear a STREET!! OMGOsh it was horrid. And yep, they wer ekinda mucousy and runny and explosive....just yucky. Jedd wasn't too oral at that point so I jsut put the backpack on him with peidaltye or 1/2 and 1/2 strength formula to give him some calories to keep him strength up.

I hope it passes fast. For us, it took aobut 4 weeks to get back to full feed in the day and night time.

Adriane Reese 05/16/07; seemingly healthy when born; diagnosed with MSPI, severe Reflux, Apnea, Ashtma, Epilepsy, and severe food allergies(rice, corn, milk, soy, eggs, oats, wheat, beef, chicken, squash, pumpkin, avocado, etc.);On apnea monitor, seems to be tolerating RCF w/carbohydrate mixed in; on Zyrtec, Xopenex, Prevacid
It has been 5 years since Morgan had it but I don't remember at this point if she threw up more than usual. She had horrible ear infections at the same time and she always threw up with that. Just keep pumping the fluids and it will either pass or they will call with a different dx. I'm sorry you are having to deal with that. Even more sorry that little cooper is dealing with it. It has to be miserable!

Zack born 09/28/07 @ 31 weeks. Dx silent reflux @ 6 mo. Now not so silent. Switched to Elecare @ 9 mo. On Prevacid 15mg 1x daily. Looking to stop the puke and gain some lbs.
Puke stopped about 24 months and he's learning to eat...very slowly.
Still on prevacid and periactin.
viral testing comes back fast...if they are saying results in 6 days then they are looking for bacteria (it needs to grow)...sounds like our salmonella problem. Phhhhh. Hope it's not and that it clears up really fast!!!!
