has anybody ever heard of craniosynostosis, specifically metopic ridge craniosynostosis? I noticed a very prominent ridge on emilys forehead the other day, i don't know how i never noticed it before, possibly b/c she has bangs and long hair. I was asking a friend of mine who has a 2 year old dd if i could feel her forehead (that is how much i know about kids LOL) and she did not have a ridge on her forehead like emily

She is studying to be registered pediatric nurse had told me she was just reading about suture lines in the skull and maybe there was a problem with them coming together and that created the ridge. She was telling that it could be a mild case that's why we never noticed it but it can cause increased cranial pressure thus aggravating reflux and causing stomach and behavior problems. I plan on asking her pedi about it, but i was just wondering if you guys knew or had any experience with this sort of thing.

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
Maggie has something that sounds like that. I haven't felt it recently to see if it has "gone away" but it alarmed me too. Her head also seems to bulge out more than normal over her ears. The ped told me that it was just the pieces (whatever they're called) coming together. Now, that's one ped so who knows :) That's just what they told me.

seamus mama
Seamus was diagnosed with Silent Reflux at 3 weeks. Now he is 14 months, on Prilosec and avoiding dairy, soy, egg. Still nursing. A lot !!!
Interesting! Seamus has a line that goes diagonally from the inner corner o his eyebrow up into his hairline..It is a very very slight line that can be seen in the correct lighting. Its not elevated off his skin but the microscopic hairs part at this "seam". I have never thought of it relating to reflux..It may not but i am glad that you brought it up.

I just was looking up craniosynotosis on the web and there was reference to torticollis..I didn't mention this in the last post, but when Seamus was born he had torticollis, (may have spelled incorrectly), where his neck tilted in one direction. His head was always cocked to one side, for the first 2 months. Also, one side of his face was more rounded and formed than the other. My midwives and the pedi said that it was probably like that due to the fact that he was trapped breach for so long that one side of his face was smushed under my ribcage. he was in the same position for months and all I felt were his constant hiccups and no movement whatsoever. I wonder if the torticollis effected his reflux. Hmmm. I'm interested in hearing if other mamas of refluxers had similar situations.

Meggy has had x-rays 2x to rule out craniosynostosis. They were afraid her skull had sealed prematurely and wouldn't allow her brain to grow with out pressure.

It was definitely ruled out the second go around with x-rays and then the cat scan we had recently showed no cranial pressure either, so we are in good shape. If your pedi. hasn't said anything before, I would hope that this means there is no concern. I think u r doing the right thing by asking.

Check with your
doctor first!
