Difference Between Reflux And Vomitting?
Normally I can tell so easily. But I am now officially confused because he has increased his reflux over the last few weeks a lot, AND he's sick today. Yeah. He has tonsilitis (not strep - whew!). He's not really wanting to eat much. But he was just eating, propped up in bed, his favorite position, and actually ate a few ounces! Suddenly his tummy made this horrible gurgle and I knew it was coming. Before I could move here came every ounce he ate in a nasty throwing up noise and motion. Now, which is it? If it's reflux, nothing I can do until Monday. If it's vomit, I need to call the doctor. I have no clue.

Also mom to Nathan. born Jan.20th, 2009, MPI . so far dx with reflux and has an extremely sensitibe GI system. Also dx with primary immune deficiency disease.
I don't know what to say. I can hear the difference in Jasmine, but that's because I have almost 2 years of practise with her. I would say go with your gut...if you think it could be vomit then take him in. I hope he's feelingh better soon.... HUGS!

Audrey Meadow 06/20/08. born 34/35 weeks. Still b/f and eats everything! ftt and chronic constipation.
with emily i would hear the gurgle and automaticly know it was coming up, throw up or spitup something was coming UP. with audrey... it;s a different thing i hear the same gurgle and nothing happens nothing comes up or nothing goes down. people have told me that after hearing what they hear in her belly it sounds closer to a blow out about to happen but... it never does. so honestly for you guys i am hoping it is reflux and nothing more serious!

This is our dd, Alessandra. Dx with GER 10/07. Ran the gamut with meds and now done with them (crossed fingers). Using magnesium, probiotics and prebiotic supplements. With the exception of teething and general sassy attitude, all is well now. They really CAN grow out of it!
I think the main difference is the effort - vomit is more forceful and usually is accompanied by some type of retching and/or gagging. Reflux is more passive and usually after the surge, it's done.
Check with your
doctor first!
