Allergic reaction, Cooper of course
Well, it has been one heck of a week. Cooper's tummy is cover in tiny raised red bumps. So I called the er this morning and they said to dc the antibiotic and see the pedi tomorrow. Man am I frustrated. I don't know what antibiotic caused the reaction either b/c he had augmiten in the er and then zithiromax at home b/c the insurance wouldn't pay for the augmiten. He has had a dose of each. I noticed a few bumps yesterday, but there are lots more today. Urg. He is more himself and no longer has a fever, but he is coughing like crazy and his breathing sounds like crap. His reflux is crazy bad. I really don't think the probe will get that good of results b/c he was so out of it. I wish he had the probe now. Hopefully the meds will kick in soon. Sorry I needed a little vent.

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
Has he had augmentin before? or other penicillin drugs? You know Mags got hives from aug. so apparently she's allergic to pen.

He has only ever been on antibiotics twice. Once IV when he was in the hospital when he was first born and then one other time for an ear infection. I think that was amoxcillin. But, I have heard they often don't react the first time, sometimes it takes a few exposures before a reaction happens. I think both of those antiBs are penicillin dirivitives, so it is probably that. We have a pretty strong family hx of penicillin allergy.

Yes, Mags didn't react to amox. when she had it before aug. I don't think zithromax is pen. but I could be wrong.

I am Jacky, mommy to Joslyn Olivia (April 2008) and Katelyn Isabel (November 2009).
Joslyn was dx'ed with Silent Reflux with breath apnea at 5 days old. VERY SCARY!
Katelyn is a spitter reflux baby. Started at 3 days old as well. (Both were/are breast fed.. symptoms came on when my milk came in).
Joslyn has been reflux free since she was 12 months (suffered poor weight gain for a few months) and Katelyn is now on Zantac... waiting to see if it works.
man he can not catch a break! Poor little man! Hope he is feeling better soon!

Bryson (3/06), former Neocate, Nexium, and Reglan baby. Diagnosed with peanut allergy and asthma. Weaned from meds in Spring 0f 08. Brother, Parker (6/04), was also on Prevacid and Pregestimil (formula) as an infant.
Our oldest son is allergic to amoxicillin and he did not react until he was over 2 years of age. He is able to take Zithromax without any problems. I hope the little guy gets to feeling better!

Kathryn, Pager Volunteer and mommy to Emily Mia 02/04/07. 3 years old with GERD. 30mg Prevacid and Pepcid AC. Mylanta needed for flares. Failed prilosec med switch. Tried and failed many med weans but GERD and pain are well controlled. Functional constipation. Reoccurring SBBO. Suspected IBD or autoimmune disease. Resolved issues: MSPI, CSID (acquired), Stage 2 kidney reflux, Chronic diarrhea.
Audrey Meadow 06/20/08. born 34/35 weeks. Still b/f and eats everything! ftt and chronic constipation.
i'm allergic to amoxi and peni families of antibiotics. i usually can only take Z packs, zithromax is not penicillin. my reaction includes rash and breathing problems. i would bet that he had the reaction to augmentin. isn't it crazy that tests are never there when you KNOW they will show results? at any rate i hope he feels better .
