ooo i wish i had a scanner
so i get this letter in the mail today from our prescription plan. it states out potential annual savings off Emily's prescription is $504. 39! i am instantly intrigued. I open the letter and inside it says: "this chart shows some of the current lower-cost options available under your plan..."
cost of previcid per year: $565.27( i don't know where they got that number we pay $75.00 per month)
A. Ranitidine mail order: 60.88 per year (savings $504.39)
B. Ranitidine retail: 77.66 per year
omeprazole: 121.67 per year.

so according to our prescription company, they would rather have us pay less for a less effective drug; it does not matter to them what she was prescribed!
i DON"T get it, the DOCTOR prescribed her a med, the plan should have no say in WHICH med should or shouldn't be used but give a fair rate on medications. we already paid our $100 copay and they don't even cover prevacid. so now they want to recommend a med that will make her sicker, thanks prescription plan you are the epitome of capitalism

Julie - I have three children. My youngest Katie is my refluxer. My first Ben was very colicy and is ADHD. My middle Jakob is pretty easy going. Katie had it bad as a baby no sleep for two years. She was on Nutramagin, Prevacid and Zantac. Thought we were through it but after age three it came back big time. After her scope she was put on Prevacid 45mg a day and mylanta as needed. Scope was in Sept. Showed damage in stomach and espophogus. It took about 7 months of medication and Reflux diet for her to start feeling better.
The cost of prevacid makes me crazy too. I just don't get it. So many little ones are on it and it is so expensive.

did you get your savings card off of the prevacid .com website? You save $25 each time. I just received mine - I can't wait to use it.

I don't know if u would qualify especially being that you have insurance, but Medication Assistance

Sometimes if you write them, they will take special circumstances into consideration. The meds come in 3 month supplies. It is something to think about with the economy.

It is sad, but insurance does control a great deal of your care and your child's care.

I have learned lately that insurance can flag someone's name. When your name is flagged doctors who write for test and certain scripts can be penalized for doing it. It is really sad and frustrating but nothing we can do.

Urg! That makes me so mad. After I had Cooper, I thought about taking some anti depressants to cope with how sick he was. I got the rx filled, but never ended up taking it. A few weeks later, I got a letter from the insurance co saying that the dr had approved a different, cheaper med. I was so mad, even though I wasn't taking it. It is ridiculous. They also called the dr about changing Cooper's prevacid to 1 30mg a day instead of 2 15mgs. Seriously, these are our kids and we work hard and pay out the butt for insurance so we can give them the best, yet it is still a battle!

In Canada our system is very different and our drugs cost peanuts without insurance, so I will always keep you ladies in mind when it comes to free or extra meds...If thats alright....

I know Kathryn, it' sjsut nuts. He obvously nees them AND he have weaned him down to a H2blocker you'd think they'd be hahppy about that. But NOPE.

But remember this is the same Ins, Co that denied ALL our claims for tube feeding supplies for Jedd even though he was FTT was NOT eating period and was wasting away to nothign due to his heart dfect AND GERD....he was barely 7.5lbs at 9weeks old after a birth weight of 5lbs15oz. He was itty bitty.

When I got the denial letter on that one, I called and asked them if thye wante dmy son to DIE!!!!!! Was that their purpose in deny tube feeidng. the denial letter statted that FTT was NOT a covered purpose for a feeidng tube unitl a child was 2 year sof age AND get this...

That a feeding tube could NOT be placed for the CONVIENCE of the parent and Dr!!!!!!! OOHHHHH that makes me spitting mad!!!!!! Liek tube feeidng is a convience and I was jsut too lazy to get up at night and feed my child....I still make smy blood boil thinking aobut it no over a year later.
