Sudden breakout
Donnie has had a sudden breakout on his face several days ago, mainly his cheeks. It started out looking like eczema, red and rashy, but now it is VERY pimply. Dh bought him a pretend shaving kit with some foam soap and I thought that was what caused it since it appeared about the day after he used it, but it has been about 5 days now and it still hasn't gone away or even started to clear up. He is on an antibiotic and still has 3 more days left on it but that has never caused this before. I put some cream on his face tonight that I have (Atopiclair) to see if that helps any. Any ideas what this might be or be from? -Liz

Julie - I have three children. My youngest Katie is my refluxer. My first Ben was very colicy and is ADHD. My middle Jakob is pretty easy going. Katie had it bad as a baby no sleep for two years. She was on Nutramagin, Prevacid and Zantac. Thought we were through it but after age three it came back big time. After her scope she was put on Prevacid 45mg a day and mylanta as needed. Scope was in Sept. Showed damage in stomach and espophogus. It took about 7 months of medication and Reflux diet for her to start feeling better.
Is it a new family of antibiotics or is it the same one that he has taken before?

If the anti isn't one he never used before I would think it still could be the shaving cream. I have terrible eczema and it takes a long time for it to go away. Esp. if you are having colder weather like we are here the skin is already weakened from that. My hands are really bad from the cold and washing them 850 x a day with taking care of kids and I'm sure it will be like this for the whole winter.

BTW I like your pic!!!!! You should think about trying facebook. It isn't as hard as you may think (I figured it out even:)) and it is a great way to share pics and it also has a chat feature. I miss talking with ya.

Has he had cold like symptoms too? My oldest brought 5th disease home from school last year. It started with cold symptoms and then the rash appeared after the cold symptoms started to subside. It wasn't a bad rash, basically like you are describing but some of her classmates had larger rashes. It is viral so they really couldn't do much about it. They did say that once you can see the rash they are no longer contagious.

Not that I am saying that is what is going on... Just thought I'd share our experience. ;) I had never heard about 5th disease until kindergarten. Oh the joy of school. LOL!!

Thanks for all of the responses! I was really worried about it being a reaction to the antibiotic (Omnicef) but I am pretty sure this is eczema. The atopiclair helped a lot and it is looking better today, although he still has the pimply cheeks it isn't so red. Gosh, it hasn't been this bad before, it even had dh worried and he never worries like I do lol. Thanks again! Liz
