Adriane Reese 05/16/07; seemingly healthy when born; diagnosed with MSPI, severe Reflux, Apnea, Ashtma, Epilepsy, and severe food allergies(rice, corn, milk, soy, eggs, oats, wheat, beef, chicken, squash, pumpkin, avocado, etc.);On apnea monitor, seems to be tolerating RCF w/carbohydrate mixed in; on Zyrtec, Xopenex, Prevacid
Our doc told us that it is up to us at to which one we use. We give it only for flares. So, we administer the dosage when she really needs it. if you are using it daily I believe the suggestion is at least half an hour before eating. Sorry, i'm not much more help than that.

Julie - I have three children. My youngest Katie is my refluxer. My first Ben was very colicy and is ADHD. My middle Jakob is pretty easy going. Katie had it bad as a baby no sleep for two years. She was on Nutramagin, Prevacid and Zantac. Thought we were through it but after age three it came back big time. After her scope she was put on Prevacid 45mg a day and mylanta as needed. Scope was in Sept. Showed damage in stomach and espophogus. It took about 7 months of medication and Reflux diet for her to start feeling better.
We use Mylanta and use it when Katie has a stomach ache. Sometimes she still flares even on Prevacid. I just give it to her as soon as I know she is in pain.

This is our dd, Alessandra. Dx with GER 10/07. Ran the gamut with meds and now done with them (crossed fingers). Using magnesium, probiotics and prebiotic supplements. With the exception of teething and general sassy attitude, all is well now. They really CAN grow out of it!
We use Maalox Max and were told to give 4 ml up to 4 x's/day as needed (she's about 20 lbs at 14 months) We use a syringe, like we do for most her meds. I'd ask your MD or pharm what they recommend. Also, don't give it within 2 hours on either side of a PPI dose - it inhibits the absorption. We only use it occassionally (about 1-2 x's/month now) for bad flares.

I am Jacky, mommy to Joslyn Olivia (April 2008) and Katelyn Isabel (November 2009).
Joslyn was dx'ed with Silent Reflux with breath apnea at 5 days old. VERY SCARY!
Katelyn is a spitter reflux baby. Started at 3 days old as well. (Both were/are breast fed.. symptoms came on when my milk came in).
Joslyn has been reflux free since she was 12 months (suffered poor weight gain for a few months) and Katelyn is now on Zantac... waiting to see if it works.
we use maalox... 1/4 teaspoon up tp 4 times a day

Audrey Meadow 06/20/08. born 34/35 weeks. Still b/f and eats everything! ftt and chronic constipation.
when you compare mylanta and maloxx they have the same amounts of active ingredients in their basic formula so there really isn't much diff. i use mylanta maximum strength 1) b/c it comes in generic and 2) it has simethicone which is anti gas. 3) it has no sugar. All flavored mylata and ALL maloxx contains sugar so we couldn't even try maloxx. Others here use Mylanta Supreme which has added calcium- if you are using mylanta a lot and are concerned about calcium absorption this is a good one.

Here is a page about Mylanta-

and here is one on Maloxx-
this page has the active ingrediant amounts
