One more asthma question: % Oxygen
They did an oxygen test (on his finger) at the doc's today and it came up 97% (excellent). Then they did the albuterol/nebulizer treatment and it was still 97%. 1) for someone who is asthmatic and (supposedly) suffering a flair, isn't that a high blood/O2 number? 2) Shouldn't it have improved after the neb; maybe to 98%? I trust the doctors but I question everything anyway (see "worry wart"). Thanks!

97 is a good number anyway. I wouldnt worry much about that. I have seen flares with low sats and normal sats. A mild attack isnt going to drop it much

Patti, mom to Max (3/04) with EE and chronic sinus issues; Lucy (6/07) with reflux
Hi...it has been our experience that O2 levels are not the only indication of an asthma/respiratory issue. Max has never dropped below 94%...yet, he has been hospitalized several times because of severe wheezing, retraction, RSV, pneumonia, etc. I just think that some kids don't desat like others. I never really judge much on his O2 levels. But, that is just our experience. Good luck!

mom2adriane&morgan
Adriane Reese 05/16/07; seemingly healthy when born; diagnosed with MSPI, severe Reflux, Apnea, Ashtma, Epilepsy, and severe food allergies(rice, corn, milk, soy, eggs, oats, wheat, beef, chicken, squash, pumpkin, avocado, etc.);On apnea monitor, seems to be tolerating RCF w/carbohydrate mixed in; on Zyrtec, Xopenex, Prevacid
I would have to agree with the pp. Morgan always has good sat levels even when she is having a flare. On the other hand Adriane's are around 97% when she is healthy and drops low when she is having a flare. I think everyone is different and I judge by the way I feel, whether my chest is tight or I am wheezing, etc.

Thanks all. Good information to have going in.

K is coughing up more mucus after the breathing treatments but he is still coughing alot. The Doc said he'd be alot better by tonight since his oral steroid was given to him this morning. I just don't see it but I'll let you know what the doc says after the apt tomorrow.

Good night.
