Julie - I have three children. My youngest Katie is my refluxer. My first Ben was very colicy and is ADHD. My middle Jakob is pretty easy going. Katie had it bad as a baby no sleep for two years. She was on Nutramagin, Prevacid and Zantac. Thought we were through it but after age three it came back big time. After her scope she was put on Prevacid 45mg a day and mylanta as needed. Scope was in Sept. Showed damage in stomach and espophogus. It took about 7 months of medication and Reflux diet for her to start feeling better.
Never heard of it being used for relux. Does your doc. think she has an infection in her stomach. I thought it was a last resort antibiotic???

Mom to Jasmine aka: Jazz 01/24/2007
Dx with silent reflux at 8 months
FPIES, DGE, MSPI. Recently diagnosed with EC (Eosin. colitis and now Primary immune deficiency disease.
Also mom to Nathan. born Jan.20th, 2009, MPI . so far dx with reflux and has an extremely sensitibe GI system. Also dx with primary immune deficiency disease.
I know that flagyl can help speed up motility, hence emptying the stomach faster. Jazzy is on a drug called motilium to do the exact thing in hopes of helping with the reflux. That's all I can think of. It will probably cause runny/diarrhea type stools though...Hope it works!!

Are they thinking she has SIBO? (small bowel bacterial overgrowth syndrome) That is why my daughter is on Flagyl.

Also Flagyl is very tough on the stomach, we have to cycle on and off. It isnt a good way to treat reflux unless bacterial overgrowth is causing symptoms.

I agree with PP, it is VERY hard on the stomach, and most people that take have to do so for a bacterial infection (clostridium difficle). I hope as Jessicalynn said it is for SIBO, otherwise I would maybe question your Dr. rational.... Good luck!

Interesting. I took Flagyl when I was pregnant with Seamus, to treat Bacterial Vaginosis. I have never heard of it for reflux.
