Rory Update
It's viral conjunctivitis. Pink eye that does not respond to antibiotic drops. It can last up to two weeks, hence no response to the treatment. The ped at the hospital said that her stuffiness and mouth breathing is also from the virus(es). She most likely has had back to back viruses which is why it "seems" like she's been sick forever. He said she is a quiet breather, but that she is still breathing fine. Viruses can affect the nasal passages, as well as cause fever and diahrrea, which is why she felt funky on the weekend. We just have to sit back and wait for it to resolve. Interestingly, he also said that it is normal for children, in the first two years, to contract approximately 7 to 12 common viruses, so when you pack that into 24 months, it can seem like you recover from one just to get hit by another one, and since she is in daycare, she'll probably be closer to 12 viruses. He said despite her weight and getting the normal junk, she is healthy. They look at skin, hair, and growth as signs of that, and she is "beautiful".

I talked to work, and they were VERY VERY understanding. It helped that I was on the verge of tears ;) They know I love my job, I'm good at it, and that my hands are tied. They know I wouldn't miss if I didn't have to (I need the money, lol). Anyway, they said that it's not busy this week, and I'm in a good spot with the project, and that if she is still icky on Monday, just to call and let them know. PPHHHHEEEWWW!! I totally wasn't expecting that. Anyway, thanks for all the support ladies. I'm still not convinced it is not allergies, so I will still be getting the referral. I might see if she can squeak us in tomorrow since I'm off anyway. HUGS.

Reflux (mostly) resolved at 14 months
and Addison born 8/17/09. Currently exclusively bf and on 7.5mg Prevacid
Darn viruses!!! At least now you know what's going on. I will tell you that during the first year Halley was in daycare, she was sick all...the...time. It's been a little bit better the last few months. I guess the bright side is that they build up their immunities now and won't be out so much once they start school, but that's not much consolation now :-). I'm so happy to hear that work was understanding...I'm sure it helps that you're awesome employee!

Yay! I'm so glad your job is ok! I agree with you. It could be the viral thing but so many times drs miss stuff bc they want to blame a virus. I'd check with someone else also. Hugs!

camile- twins with reflux
Thomas and Lucas_2
Michelle, I am so glad your work was understanding. It is nice when people are able to place themselves in someone elseīs foot (not sure you say that in english:-). Maybe you can bake them all a cake when you come back? As for daycare, it is really true that the catch every single virus in the first year. My twins started daycare in February 2008 and I have lost count of how many times they have been sick ever since (colds, sore throats and what is the most dreadful for me- stomachbugs, especially rotavirus). Every time they get sick, get a high fever and their reflux and vomiting is out of control I cannot help but think they caught something at the daycare. But then, I also think how much fun they have there. They love their classmates, teachers. Their preschool has such a welcoming and creative atmosphere, they learn so many neat things (songs, games). They have gymnastics (which they love), trips to the park. I really think preschool has been good to them. My husband and I work pretty much 12 hours a day and, therefore, need to have help at home. The boys could stay home with the nanny all day, but I really chose to send them to preschool in the mornings and I think it is helping them in so many ways. Letīs hope Rory bounce back sooner than you think. Camile

I am Jacky, mommy to Joslyn Olivia (April 2008) and Katelyn Isabel (November 2009).
Joslyn was dx'ed with Silent Reflux with breath apnea at 5 days old. VERY SCARY!
Katelyn is a spitter reflux baby. Started at 3 days old as well. (Both were/are breast fed.. symptoms came on when my milk came in).
Joslyn has been reflux free since she was 12 months (suffered poor weight gain for a few months) and Katelyn is now on Zantac... waiting to see if it works.
so glad you found out what is wrong!!!

Dx with silent reflux at 8 months
FPIES, DGE, MSPI. Recently diagnosed with EC (Eosin. colitis and now Primary immune deficiency disease.
Also mom to Nathan. born Jan.20th, 2009, MPI . so far dx with reflux and has an extremely sensitibe GI system. Also dx with primary immune deficiency disease.
I am glad about work too....takes a load off doesn't it? Poor Rory though....not fun being sick all the time. I have also learned that kids can get up to 12 viruses a year, as their immune systems develop....... As for Rory being healthy, I also would not be satisfied with the answer you got. Jazzy also has shiny strong hair, good skin, bright eyes etc.... doesn't mean she still does not have all of these GI problems/ allergies etc..... I'm glad your taking her to the allergist anyways.... :-)

Thanks girls. I'm so relieved too about work. And I totally agree with you Brenda, that hair should not be a qualifying factor in the assessment of the OVERALL health of a child. But for now, I need to exit "worry zone" and just relax while we wait for the referral. I've been cuckoo bananas lately, obsessing. Anyway, I posted a pic of her eye where the daycare workers broke the skin. It had to be them, Rory hadn't messed with her eyes all week. Anyways, it's on her blog. www.lifewithrory.blogspot.com
