Jobless over pinkeye?
Well, Rory woke up this morning and her eyes looked pretty good. I figured I'd take her to daycare and if they wouldn't keep her, I could pick her up, and stop by work with her to "plead my case", lol. I told her teacher (aka the idiot) that if her eyes start to have discharge, to please call me at work and I will come and get her. I only work 5 minutes away. Anyway, I didn't get a call all day, so thought things were looking up. I get there and the subs (her teacher leaves at 3) told me that her eyes were oozing all day and the co-ordinator said to tell me that I should not bring her back until she sees a doctor! I proceed to tell the subs, she has been to TWO doctors, on TWO different medications, and WHY THE HECK didn't someone CALL ME!!! I know it's my fault for taking her in, but I can't risk losing my job, and I honestly thought she would be fine. To top it all off, they rubbed her eyes so hard today that she now has an open wound on her eye! I have been washing her eyes repeatedly for six days and have yet to break the skin. I could have saved her the torture if they would have called me. Oh, the best part is that the co-ordinator DID call....my house....at 3:00 in the afternoon....WTF???? Yeah, I send my kid to daycare to sit home all day. They have my work number. UGH. So, they don't want me to bring her back until next week. I soooo don't need this right now!!!! I'm probably going to lose my job. Anyway, why isn't it going away????? It's been a week. I'm going to lose my job over pink eye.....not the flu, not pneumonia, no.....pink eye!!!! Anyway, I'm taking her to the children' hospital tomorrow. It may not even be pinkeye for all I know. I DID take her to the walk-in clinic (which I HATE doing for this very reason). I wish her doctor worked more than 6 hours a week! Okay, going to scream now....aaaararrrrhhhhhhghghhhhh!!!!

Maybe a sinus infection...
Hi...sorry to hear about how daycare handled the situation. We were in a similar situation a few years ago (pink eye that would not got away)...the only thing that resolved it was an oral antibiotic. The ped felt that Max has a sinus infection that blocked his sinuses to the point that the gunk was oozing out his eyes. I remember reading too that Rory has had a cold for weeks, right? Maybe it is all related to a sinus infection. Just a thought. Good luck and hope your work is understanding of the situation.

I don't remember who or when but I remember somebody else saying the same thing about a sinus infection. I bet that's what it is. Hope all goes ok and you don't lose your job!

yes it was mommyto2! I never thought that was a possiblity with Rory. I thought it happened more in older kids. I've been reading online, and it is sounding like that is a likely cause. I asked the doc about allergies and she said it wouldn't cause discharge. BUT I read that allergies/colds can trigger sinusitis, which CAN cause discharge. There is also the possibility that her infection is viral, not bacterial, in which case, it could be resistant to the drops. Guess we'll know tomorrow. Why do I have to be so slow figuring stuff out???? Why do doctors make you research it yourself and talk with other moms and figure it out yourself before they actually get a clue?????? Sheesh.

OMGosh Michelle, I swear, they calle dyour house...really come on you work....I would think that after NOT getting you at home, they would try work or a cell if you have one.

As far as allergies have you tried a full dose of benedryl to see if tha twill dry it up some. JEdd has horrible discharge, it even truns green if he dones't take his med. He takes the generic for claritan. Yes, it onlysupposed to be used for over 2 years of age but he started it around 18 months and we got the go ahead to do the FULL dose as well. It has helped sooooo soooo much in the runny nose itchy eye dept.

If she does well ont he bene dryl for a few days, I'd say she has allergies. That's the case with us. We jsut wanted to get Jed don to a drug that could be use donce per day and not cause him to be sleepy.

I hope the appt goes well, this is just nuts.

Poor Rory. I hope they can diagnose it correctly tomorrow at the hospital and give her the right medicine. As for your job, wouldn't it help if you got a letter tomorrow from one of the doctors at the hospital saying that Rory is sick and cannot go back to daycare until next week? Wishing you all the best. Camile

Julie - I have three children. My youngest Katie is my refluxer. My first Ben was very colicy and is ADHD. My middle Jakob is pretty easy going. Katie had it bad as a baby no sleep for two years. She was on Nutramagin, Prevacid and Zantac. Thought we were through it but after age three it came back big time. After her scope she was put on Prevacid 45mg a day and mylanta as needed. Scope was in Sept. Showed damage in stomach and espophogus. It took about 7 months of medication and Reflux diet for her to start feeling better.
Ugh. Poor baby. Maybe you will get some antibiotics and she can go back to daycare.

I have NEVER heard of a school or daycare only calling one number. I always get two calls- one at home and one on my cell. That is crazy!

Adriane Reese 05/16/07; seemingly healthy when born; diagnosed with MSPI, severe Reflux, Apnea, Ashtma, Epilepsy, and severe food allergies(rice, corn, milk, soy, eggs, oats, wheat, beef, chicken, squash, pumpkin, avocado, etc.);On apnea monitor, seems to be tolerating RCF w/carbohydrate mixed in; on Zyrtec, Xopenex, Prevacid
Let me say that I would be so mad if something like that had happened to A or M. That is just sad that they let her sit there all day with stuff in her eyes. Then to have the nerve to blame it on you! Seriously!?!

As far as the eye infection goes. A had some similar stuff going on this week. Not as bad. Her ears were infected and the infection had backed up into her ears. My oldest, Morgan, used to get this all the time. I had actually thought about it earlier this week. She got the eye infection from the ear infection more times than not.

I hope you get things figured out.

An oozing eye can also be a sign of a sinus or ear infection. I hope you get her little eyes better soon. Praying for you and your job. I think employers should have more understanding when it comes to children but they don't care. You are in my thoughts and Rory is too. Carla
