sharlin, mom to aviah, smith and faye (4/08)-dx with acid reflux (mostly silent) at 6 months.
Looking back I suspect she's been dealing with this for most of her little life. She's tried about every formula in the book and is currently on liquid alimentum, which has really helped a lot with her fighting feedings. We also tried zantac, but she became MUCH worse, and so we've been trying to work on helping her through her diet. she's also taking probiotics, and i'm hoping to get her eating some solids more regularly.
diarrhea and new formula
we've had faye on a new formula for a week. it has helped a lot with her silent reflux. she is eating much more willingly. but it made her poo lots runnier, which i was fine with when it was still just once a day, but by the 4th day she went 2 times, 5th day 5 times, just once the 6th day, and had already gone twice before her morning nap this a.m. anyone else have an experience like this? any hope that it will clear up on it's own with more time? she's almost 7 months, so i called the nurse who said to try giving her some rice cereal to add a little bulk to her diet. we are behind in getting her to eat much solids because i've been working so much on getting her on a formula that works with her little system.

Pictured: G'mom w/3 kids. I'm mom to 1 angel Melissa (dec'd 11/92 - hypoplastic left-heart syn.)
2 healthy daughters (knock wood) Cory (16), Kim (11) & Eric (4) diagnosed with e.e. (scoped 8/08), GERD & severe food/seasonal allergies, asthma. Cried non-stop first 17 mths. of life Found out he is allergic to cow's milk, soy, eggs, and peanuts. Takes Prevacid, Neocate One Plus & Flovent.
What is the new formula? I see Neocate listed next to your siggy. If she has trouble with milk/soy does the Simply Thick contain either of these ingrediants. Has she started solids recently? Ellen

This is our dd, Alessandra. Dx with GER 10/07. Ran the gamut with meds and now done with them (crossed fingers). Using magnesium, probiotics and prebiotic supplements. With the exception of teething and general sassy attitude, all is well now. They really CAN grow out of it!
Most lo's have some trouble for about a week or 2 with formula switches, since it takes that long to get the old formula out. I'd say as long as she stays hydrated let it go for a bit. What formula is she on now - Neocate? Some cereal may help after a day or so, or even some applesauce or banana, if you can et them in her - they'll both firm up stool pretty well.

i haven't updated my profile yet, but the simply thick actually made her spit up more (can you believe that?!) and she off neocate and on liquid alimentum (no corn, soy and milk is broken down a lot). i think it's possible the diarrhea could be from the small amount of milk, but since she's doing ok reflux wise, i don't want to switch (we have tried nearly every other formula out there). so i'm going to try the rice cereal thing and see if that helps to firm them up a bit and hope for the best. she is also teething, and while she didn't have diarrhea when she got her first tooth, she wasn't on this formula either. i'm wondering if the teething could make the diarrhea worse (like the 5 times a day) when usually it's just watery once a day on the formula. isn't all the guess work fun? wouldn't it be nice if by the 3rd time around there wouldn't be any more ?'s?!

Donnessa, mom to Halley born 3/10/07
Reflux (mostly) resolved at 14 months
and Addison born 8/17/09. Currently exclusively bf and on 7.5mg Prevacid
That's pretty similar to our experience when we weaned Halley onto Nutramigen from bm. It was a lot at first, but then it started evening out to a couple of times a day.
