Resolved issues: MSPI, CSID (acquired), Stage 2 kidney reflux, Chronic diarrhea.
Audrey Meadow 06/20/08. born 34/35 weeks. Still b/f and eats everything! ftt and chronic constipation.
she was miserable today dh and i decided to try a suppository if she went after that then we would keep her at home. hospitals really freak dh out so he wants to do everything possible o keep her at home cause she is so little. well she went a little bit and it was yogurt consistency which is better then water poo right? probably not but she slept after that then was miserable for a few hours until she decided she would finally eat and now shes sleeping again.

i don't know if i am making to much out of this or not. I am driving myself crazy thinking.
Maybe she doesn't have enough poop to poop but that seems strange right? I never had a normal pooping baby. but i would think that any other baby do SOMETHING when given over 6 doses of milk of mag and 2 suppositories(finally going after the second suppository- water poop)
then i think what if it's all built up in there and she can't. but if she was blocked up wouldn't she be in pain? she wouldn't sleep right?? but if she wasn't blocked up they wouldn't have wanted to schedule a clean out in the first place.

ugh i wish that OUR dr. was on call and not some stupid PA (i'm sure shes not stupid but for the context of my random brain she is now) we would have gotten a better idea of what to do, maybe...

I really, really hope you get that "clean out" rescheduled. i would want to rule out intussusseption, malrotation, hirshprungs, or whatever else could possibly be wrong...everyone always told me that preemies always have a hard time going, but this is too much! Elyse eventually stopped going even with suppository, and that was after a week of no poo (her pedi only wanted us giving her one like every 10 days but I could NOT wait that long). She didn't really sleep though...she would go 20 minutes and then start screaming again.

our pedi told us to do a suppository every 24- 48 hours only after lactulose and prune juice and sugar water didn't work. I would wait until she would stop eating. i know that was mean but i didn't want her to get dependent on them. i always held on to the thought she would one day magically go on her own.... so that surprises me your pedi would say 10 days! i asked the GI about malrotation and he kinda brushed off the idea and changed the subject. Audrey sleeps through the night but day time is no naps longer then 20 mins when she has not gone for a couple days. today was one of those days...

i feel like something needs to be done but i also feel kinda silly b/c she is not screaming all the time like emily. maybe i am a little gun shy?

I guess I have seen a lot of normal pooping babies and this just doesn't sound normal. IMHO I'd take her back in. No child I have seen could go through that much laxatives and suppositories and still barely poop. Something is going on. (((HUGS))) I hope they can figure it all out.

I have zero experience with normal pooping babies but i agree with Amber! Kat, our old pedi was a nutcase. no one should have to go 10 days without pooping! He just didn't want her to become dependent on them. I never waited longer than a week before giving in. He told me over and over when i brought her in that her tummy wasn't too hard and that he thought it was fine...but testing proved that she was NOT fine (testing that he did not even consider ordering, we had to wait until she was bad enough that another dr in the practice sent us to ER and she was then admitted). If you feel in your heart that there is more going on, please get her in.
