need help with a ? about pink eye (Rory)
Hey ladies. Rory has double pink eye, and has been on drops since Friday. She is getting progressively worse. Her eyes are really seepy, crusty (despite warm compress), red and very very swollen. The doc said she should be better within 48 hours, and that's not happening. She is bawling and crying and won't nap. I read online that pink eye could be viral or bacterial. Since she has had a cold for a month, and it were a viral infection, would the antibiotic drops even work???? Do we just ride it out? I just gave her tylenol in the hope she will stop crying. She's only had 2 oz of CIB milk all day. She is eating and has had 1/2 pedialyte pop. Is it normal for pink eye to make her feel this funky??

I am Jacky, mommy to Joslyn Olivia (April 2008) and Katelyn Isabel (November 2009).
Joslyn was dx'ed with Silent Reflux with breath apnea at 5 days old. VERY SCARY!
Katelyn is a spitter reflux baby. Started at 3 days old as well. (Both were/are breast fed.. symptoms came on when my milk came in).
Joslyn has been reflux free since she was 12 months (suffered poor weight gain for a few months) and Katelyn is now on Zantac... waiting to see if it works.
I have been around pink eye.... I have not seen it make babies feel or act funky.

I would think you should have seen some improvement by now. The drops burn at first then the itching seems to stop. My ds and I get pink eye several times a year and usually are better in a couple days. I would def call tomorrow if things aren't better. Even if it is viral the drops should help treat the symptoms. I am sure you are doing all this, but after she lays in her bed-wash the sheets (even if she was only in there 5 min), don't reuse towels (we just use paper when we get it), wash your hands and her hands often. Poor baby and mommy. She has had it rough lately too. HUGS

The drops help some in either case. I would think that you would see improvement by now. My older ds had Cellulitus that the docs thought was pink eye. They treated him with drops and that did nothing. If it isn't better by the am I'd bring her in case it is something else.

scanned pic sorry. This is what it looked like about day 4. Otherwise it was just red on the lid and he had the blood shot eye. The redness just kept expanding. I don't want to worry you but just to show you that it can turn into something when left untreated.

Thanks everyone! So, she shouldn't be fussing and it should probably be better by tomorrow. You guys are good! Mike is going to stay home with her tomorrow, since I can't miss time as a temp without risking my job....he has the protection of the union, lol. If she is still really crabby and puffy, we'll be taking her in to be looked at. Thanks for the sheets reminder too!! I changed them last night before I put her to bed, but I was out celebrating my birthday until 2am this morning....so I know I would have forgotten....Rory didn't nap today, so I am zonked. Amber, that looks terrible....poor little guy. Rory's is no where near that bad, thank goodness. I appreciate your opinions once again girls. Ror was a little happier after her bath.
