Great, Now What
My son has milk/soy allergies. We have him on Neocate (on top of his reflux stuff - sigh). He barely eats any solids (is 9 months old) due to his sensory processing disorder. We finally got rid of his chronic diarrhea once the GI doctor figured out it was an allergy. He grabbed some Mac and Cheese the other day and, of course, that made massive diarrhea. Sigh. Well yesterday and today he has had diarrhea. He has had no dairy, no soy, nothing. He has barely eaten anything other than his bottles (had oatmeal this morning, real, pure oatmeal and only an amount the size of your thumb nail.). If he's allergic to something in Neocate, we are up a tree. The kid will have to eat air. There's nothing else he can eat. We have tried every formula on the market, every formula. Neocate was our last chance. What else is there? If this continues I will have to call his GI doctor on Monday. Sigh!!!!!

Jessica, Mommy to Jedd, severe reflux, severe food and oral aversions, Finally G tube free!!! VSD repair 4-24-07 (open heart surgery), hypospadias, repaired 3 times and Ear tubes Visit Jedd at his CB site: www.caringbridge.org/visit/jedd
I odn't understand???? Are the issues right now from the formula or from him getting into some mac N cheese???? You can actaully use neocate past the infant stage. They just have you mix it to 30 cals instead of the infant 20 cals normal preparation. They will also have you add in some type of multivitamin on top fo the Neocate after 1 years of age.

I don't think it's from the mac and cheese. We had that reaction, sigh. I was just showing the milk/soy reaction for comparison, sorry for the confusion. Oh, no, we are staying on Neocate unless our GI doctor says stop. We have to, there are no other formula choices that I know. He has been on Neocate for quite a while, so we aren't dealing with residual proteins. This is a new reaction. This is how his little body seems to work, which is what's so hard. He is fine with something for a while, then WHAM he shows an allergic reaction. So you are sitting there thinking he has had nothing new at all and come to find out it's from something he has eaten for a long time.

Ultracare for kids
Ultracare for kids is not for every child and is not elemental, but is there if a child can't tolerate anything else. It is not nutritionally complete. Therefore, it would have to be fortified by a nutritionist or GI to meet your child's needs. It comes in Vanilla or cherry banana flavor. It specifically says not to use as an infant formula and also gives a vitamin A warning.

That being said, it: "Features low-allergy-potential rice protein for children with dairy, egg, gluten, corn protein, or soy protein sensitivities." It does contain corn in the form if Xantham gum, and if u get the vanilla, it also has corn in flavoring.

Ultracare for kids

U do need to discuss this and get it approved through the doctor. Technically u r not supposed to use it without Dr. consent or a script.

While Meggy still has many many bad days, she has been so much better on this than anything else. It may or may not work for your child, but it is good to know your options.

Check with your
doctor first!
