Meggy
Meggy is holding the back of her head and crying and crying. Does anyone know anything about High BP in babies? How would I know if hers is high? It has been high numerous times in the hospital.

I think about High BP because she holds it right in the back where mine hurts when my BP is super high.

What can I give her to help? Thanks again.

If you think her blood pressure is high, take her to the ER ASAP. There is nothing you as a parent can give her for treatment.

Most babies with high blood pressure will not have symptoms. Instead, symptoms may be related to the condition causing the high blood pressure. These symptoms may include: * Bluish skin * Failure to grow and gain weight * Frequent urinary tract infections * Pale skin (pallor) * Rapid breathing Symptoms may appear if the baby has very high blood pressure. These symptoms include: * Irritability * Seizures * Trouble breathing * Vomiting

ethan's mom
Meridith
Mom to Ethan, born 4/23/08. Diagnosed with Reflux at about 1 month, started medicating with Zantac, which wasn't helpful for us. At about 2.5 months, we started on Prevacid, twice a day, and that is working much better.
Ethan is breastfed and has a few solids that he is enjoying very much.
I'll say a quick prayer for Meggy and mommy. Poor baby.

I don't know about HBP, but I think the advice to get her to the ER is probably wise.

Have the doctors seen her do this??? Is it more towards her neck, or ears, or right in the back of the head? Poor thing, I will say a prayer also!

The headache seems to be right in the center of her head in the back. The ER took her BP numerous times because it kept reading high. We got to reading # 11 and then it was on the higher end of okay, but it was okay.

We were told that it was a machine malfunction and to follow up with the pedi. on Monday. Otherwise she was diagnosed with colic, fussiness, and the active list of diagnosis for Meggy and sent home.

She seems in a better mood so far this morning and is playing happily. This seems to be happening more and more frequently. I am planning to call the neurologist in the morning and request and MRI and CT scan. Something isn't right, I know it, I feel it, I see it. I don't believe the BP reading was a machine malfuntion. I have a history of high BP and I know it can be a serious matter. If it gets too high, she can even stroke out.

I know how to manually take an adults BP, but with a baby there is a 3rd number and I am not sure how to get that. I think I am going to look into buying a BP monitor for her to have here at home and try to find her triggers.

I would follow your mom's instinct and have it checked with the neurogolist. It will give you peace of mind. PS: She seems so sweet pushing that baby doll! Camile

You may have mentioned this...and I could have missed it.... but could she be having migranes??? My step father suffers from daily migranes and has since he was an infant. Now every morning he stands on his head for 15 minutes and swears by it.lol not to make light of it... but I was just thinking....maybe head aches.

I have a history of Migraines and fainting, so that could very well be! She does appear to have migraines often and during those times I usually notice that she is sensitive to both light and sound.

Though if she is having a migraine now, she isn't sensitive to the light and sound.

I have heard of stomach migraines and often thought of it for both Meggy and myself, wondering if that is the case.

Check with your
doctor first!
