Mom to Ethan, born 4/23/08. Diagnosed with Reflux at about 1 month, started medicating with Zantac, which wasn't helpful for us. At about 2.5 months, we started on Prevacid, twice a day, and that is working much better.
Ethan is breastfed and has a few solids that he is enjoying very much.
Expert opinion needed
I pasted last week about starting Ethan on Axid in addition to Prevacid. We started last Thursday evening doing both medicines, the prevacid on an empty tummy when he woke in the morning, and about half an hour before bed. I would give the Axid after the morning nap, and then at 10 pm, when he woke to be fed.

I felt like all I was doing was medicating and feeding, and it was all too much to remember and time, so I decided that I'd cut out the evening Prevacid dose on Tuesday. Since then the schedule has been more like 7.5 mg of Prevacid when he wakes, then at 2pm, Axid, then at 10 pm Axid, so he gets somethign every 8 hours.

Until yesterday, that seemed to be going okay. There were no signs of reflux, no sleep disturbance, no vomiting. Yesterday, he had a little spit up after each feeding, and after dinner and at bed time he vomtied quite a bit, and had trouble sleeping last night.

Sorry that took so long, but wanted to give an accurate picture. I also gave him some diluted pear juice both Thursday and Friday, and have given him more cereal each day. I thought he probably needed more liquids, with the increased cereal.

So, I'm not sure whether to add back in the Prevacid dose in the evening, give a 15 mg Solutab in the morning, or just keep going but cut back on the juice, or the amount of cereal. Thoughts?

Jessica, Mommy to Jedd, severe reflux, severe food and oral aversions, Finally G tube free!!! VSD repair 4-24-07 (open heart surgery), hypospadias, repaired 3 times and Ear tubes Visit Jedd at his CB site: www.caringbridge.org/visit/jedd
How does he react when he does puke??? does he scream in pai loudly??? That was always a sign for us that Jedd's acid was not under control.

If may just be the added extra cereal, it will take longer to exit the belly so he may jsut be gettign too much and then vomits because he is over full.

Renee, mother to Nicholas, born 4/18/08 with silent reflux, moderate laryngomalacia, Sandifer's Syndrome& suspected MSPI. On Neocate, Simply Thick and Prevacid. Also mother to Nathan, born 12/06/06, who had mild reflux the first few months.
Mine is certainly not an expert opinion but I would tend to agree that if he doesn't seem to be in pain and sleep is not disrupted, he may just be overfull. Nicholas sometimes pukes more when we try to increase the quantity of formula he takes before he is ready. (He willingly takes it but pukes it.) How long after he eats is he puking??

Zantac can cause headaches among many other things. And it caused a great deal of sleep disturbances with Meggy, but so did prevacid so I am not sure.

Sorry he is having a hard time.

Well today, same single dose of Prevacid, only one cereal meal, and no juice. So far no puking. There are wet sounding burps, but that is normal.

He has this new thing where he screams whenever he cries. I'n normally think that might indicate pain, or anger, but he then screams when he is playing, so I think maybe he just thinks its a neat sound.

Thank you for the input.
