Those who use pedialyte
Thanks guys for your support last night. I did not know our GI was on call, so I gave her a ring. She said it could be constipation and to give some pedialyte while her body is adjusting. I have noticed some of you mention this. How do you guys use it? Does your little one cramp up if they are constipated?

Humm interesting I haven't heard about giving pedialyte for constipation. When we did use it I just put some in a bottle and they drank it down. You could try inbetween the Neocate.

History of: Respiratory Distress Syndrome with ventilation/CPAP/cannula, tpn, n/g tube, PDA, jaundice, apnea, bradycardia/tachycardia, severe anemia, blood transfusion, reflux, Sandifer's Syndrome, intestinal malrotation, hemangiomas, MSPI, feeding issues. I used to just put it in a bottle too. she liked apple flavor target brand the best and it is WAY cheaper. I gave it to prevent dehydration though, not for constipation. I bet the idea was that if she gets more fluids it would soften things up? We used miralax from 4 mos until 13 mos, EVERYDAY bc it was so bad. You could ask about that if none of the other methods work.

Renee, mother to Nicholas, born 4/18/08 with silent reflux, moderate laryngomalacia, Sandifer's Syndrome& suspected MSPI. On Neocate, Simply Thick and Prevacid. Also mother to Nathan, born 12/06/06, who had mild reflux the first few months.
I usually use the pedialyte with diarrhea to keep Nathan hydrated, though I've also used it with Nicholas before a procedure when we he is only allowed clear liquids. For the baby, I put it in a bottle. For Nathan, I just put it in his sippy.

It does help hydrate them....maybe that has something to do with softening the poo? I dunno. In the bottle I either got the unflavored kind and used that inplace of water and mixed with the formula.. give it straight (flavored)... Or with bigger kids, you can make it into ice cubes and put them in their sippy/cup.
