Rory's Appt Update
Sorry to say, she has not hit 20lbs :( She weighed in at 18lbs 11 oz. Two weeks ago, on the hospital scale (with shoes on) she weighed 19lbs 8 oz. But according to THIS scale, she's gained 11 oz in 6 weeks, which is still a HUGE gain for her. Now I'm frustrated the hospital weighed her with shoes on, cause we don't have an accurate assessment of whether she lost in the last two weeks, since cutting her daycare bottle. Anyway, the GP isn't concerned. Said to stick with the milk idea and add syrup, CIB or cream to it. She said the breath-holding/grunting Rory is doing is just "her weird thing". If she had asthma or breathing trouble, we'd know by know. Ears are clear too, and we just have to get used to her coughing now that she's in daycare, according to her. So, not very productive.....but she said not to worry about her weight. Um, okay......ugh.

Mary & Nicholas 7-17-03 (non-refluxer)allergies, asthma on Singulair and Flovent & Aidan 1-28-07(my refluxer)Nissen Fundoplication on June 20, 2008, FTT, MSPI, DGE, ear tubes, allergies and severe GERD now currently taking just Prevacid and drinking Elecare Vanilla 1+.
I am so sorry Rory didn't hit the 20 mark but a gain is still a gain. I hate that all the scales are so different too. Our GI's scale is like almost 2 pounds different then the peds. I don't know how that is even possible. I wish she had better info on the breath holding etc. My first ped with my oldest son used to say that I just needed to accept that he coughed all the time because he was in daycare and that I should expect him to be sick 2 out of 4 weeks a month. He wasn't our ped for long thankfully, as he was a quack and my son has severe asthma but that is another story. It is so hard not to worry but someday we will look back on all this and miss these days. Maybe you can weigh her again in a month some where to keep easing your mind that she is still gaining.

I's sorry she did hit the 20lbs mark yet. :( I always insist that Jedd get weighed in a diaper. When he was little enough we stripped him naked. Sometimes I really had to push.

Ihope she gains for you next time. At least she had the 11oz this time. and UGH about not worring about weight. I think I'll always worry about weight...LOL

Meridith
Mom to Ethan, born 4/23/08. Diagnosed with Reflux at about 1 month, started medicating with Zantac, which wasn't helpful for us. At about 2.5 months, we started on Prevacid, twice a day, and that is working much better.
Ethan is breastfed and has a few solids that he is enjoying very much.
I can definitely understand your frustration on the weight deal. It can totally seem like they are growing, and you just know that they are going to hit the next milestone you have in your head, and then they don't. Even what they do gain then feels like a disappointment, even though it is good. UGH

Hopefully the doc is right, and she is just doing her own weird thing with the breath holding. I guess if that were true, and you just acted as if you were ignoring it, it would go away. Maybe it is worth a try, so long as it doesn't get worse while you are trying to ignore it.

Sorry it didn't go as well as you were hoping.

Thanks ladies. I was disappointed, not with the weight, but with the fact that I can't accurately account for her intake of calories while I work, and I'm second guessing myself on my decisions, and my level of concern, kwim? I SHOULD be concerned about this, shouldn't I? Sarah, this was our family doctor/general practitioner. We no longer see the pediatrician. To see a new one, we need a referral, and the GP is NOT concerned about her weight at all. I'm gonna weigh her in a couple more weeks. I just don't know if I should be attempting to get her onto milk and a cup, knowing she doesn't drink as much this way. Yes, there's more calories, but she has less intake. I'm walking the line between what is developmentally appropriate and what is nutritionally necessary. hmmmmmm.
