Mommy of Hunter born 07/16/08. Tongue tied at birth, never learned to bf well. Diagnosed with silent reflux at 5 weeks with barrium swallow. Fed on expressed breast milk. Currently on Gaviscon, Omeprizole (prilosec), Domperidone (Motilium)have yet to see medication have any effect on him. His biggest symptom is his distain of feeding time- he hates it. . Hospitalised for two weeks in September, fed through ng tube.
Back to the hospital...
So the ped called tonight and was talking that we might need to be re admitted as an in patient into the hospital :( From what I explained about the choking/coughing/stop breathing during feeds she is actually taking action!! (I am still thickeing but its only making it a little better) After pleading to everyone and their mother in the medical profession about this and no one listening to me she actually sounded concerned. Thank god. But on top of this I think his reflux is flairing up , usually I cant tell when he is refluxing but he has started to do a little shake/shiver a few times a day. Like he has a bad taste in his mouth.. Weird thing is he only just started this... Anyone elses LO do this? I was thinking he might have outgrown his Prosilec dosage and so the little pumps have started making acid again... I dont know... Second question.. When is the best time to give the Prosilec? Did I hear on an empty stomach or does it matter? THANKS GUYS!!

I am Jacky, mommy to Joslyn Olivia (April 2008) and Katelyn Isabel (November 2009).
Joslyn was dx'ed with Silent Reflux with breath apnea at 5 days old. VERY SCARY!
Katelyn is a spitter reflux baby. Started at 3 days old as well. (Both were/are breast fed.. symptoms came on when my milk came in).
Joslyn has been reflux free since she was 12 months (suffered poor weight gain for a few months) and Katelyn is now on Zantac... waiting to see if it works.
oh i am so sorry! Poor darlin!

Mary & Nicholas 7-17-03 (non-refluxer)allergies, asthma on Singulair and Flovent & Aidan 1-28-07(my refluxer)Nissen Fundoplication on June 20, 2008, FTT, MSPI, DGE, ear tubes, allergies and severe GERD now currently taking just Prevacid and drinking Elecare Vanilla 1+.
I am so glad they are finally taking you serious. Hopefully, they will monitor his breathing all night and be able to see what is going on. Don't be surprised though if he breathes, sleeps and eats like champ while at the hospital. My son numerous times was admitted even via ambulance for turning blue and stopping breathing and they would hook him up to the monitors and it would never happen again while we were there. I think Prilosec is like Prevacid and needs to be given on an empty stomach but I am not sure. Hopefully, someone else will repsond that is actually using it. BIG HUGS! Hang in there.

Jessica, Mommy to Jedd, severe reflux, severe food and oral aversions, Finally G tube free!!! VSD repair 4-24-07 (open heart surgery), hypospadias, repaired 3 times and Ear tubes Visit Jedd at his CB site: www.caringbridge.org/visit/jedd
YES YES YES It really does matter when the Prilosec is given. It needs to be on an empty stomach so that the med can work ON the Proton Pumps IN the stomach to slow/stop them from producing acid. Give it at least 30 mins prior to any food.

Mom to Ethan, born 4/23/08. Diagnosed with Reflux at about 1 month, started medicating with Zantac, which wasn't helpful for us. At about 2.5 months, we started on Prevacid, twice a day, and that is working much better.
Ethan is breastfed and has a few solids that he is enjoying very much.
I'm sorry that you are facing the possibilty of another hospital stay. I'm glad though that the pedi is taking some action.

Can't help with Prilosec questions. sorry

My previous drivers license was also stolen. The new one has extra security features on it.
PPI's never worked for Meggy, but a woman I know told me one day that if she didn't take it first thing in the morning before anything else touched her mouth, that she was miserable all day.

I would definitely say take it at least a little while before eating.

I am sorry your lo is having complications and hope that this will pass soon. I hope that if u r admitted, that it will be a productive stay and they will be able to gather a great deal of useful info.

Meggy turns blue more now than she used to. I am sure glad someone is taking u seriously. I really wish that when doctors take the oath "do no harm", that they actually meant it from their hearts.

It is sad, but many times it has felt like the doc. just didn't care. They are paid already so what more do they have to work for.

The main thing I can say is to keep looking for someone who cares, someone who will help .
