Mom to Ethan, born 4/23/08. Diagnosed with Reflux at about 1 month, started medicating with Zantac, which wasn't helpful for us. At about 2.5 months, we started on Prevacid, twice a day, and that is working much better.
Ethan is breastfed and has a few solids that he is enjoying very much.
What a roller coaster!
I was just posting yesterday that I had forgotten how much Ethan really cried as a tiny baby, and last night and today have been ridiculous. I have threatened to run screaming from the room, shut myself in other rooms so I couldn't hear him cry, and considered hiring a sitter just so I could nap!

I have NO IDEA what is going on. Well, I have ideas, but as with everything else, who knows what the real cause is. Since we got back from California, I have had trouble putting him down to sleep, and have held him until he fell asleep, and then put him down. That has been somewhat successful, though he was going to sleep on his own before. So last night, I went in to feed him and give him his Axid at about 11:00. He was just starting to wake, so I was hoping to do a dream feed and have him go right back to sleep. He screamed instead of eating, would not latch on, wouldn't take the medicine. He finally went back to sleep two hours later, after I pumped a few ounces and fed him from a bottle. He sucked that right down, without any trouble, so I am thinking this may not be reflux. I am trying to decide if it is related to starting Axid, frustration with nursing because he has been drinking a lot of juice from a sippy, to fight constipation, or if my milk supply is low, again from the juice drinking.

He seemed generally happy all day today, except for when he was ready for a nap, but woke right up when I put him in his crib tonight, and proceeded to cry inconsolably for the next hour+.

Anyway, I'm trying to work on milk supply and limiting juice, and intending to give the Axid at least a two week trial, so hopefully this will correct itself in the next day or two, and we'll be back on track again.

If you have any other ideas or suggestions, let me know. If not, venting about it has been helpful. :)

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
Maybe he's gotten used to the flow of the bottle vs. breast. Kind of like a newborn with nipple confusion. ???

I wondered about that. Who knows. He just fell asleep nursing. Unpredictable! :)

Donnessa, mom to Halley born 3/10/07
Reflux (mostly) resolved at 14 months
and Addison born 8/17/09. Currently exclusively bf and on 7.5mg Prevacid
Is he suffering from separation anxiety when he's away from you during the day? It may be that as well. Two other things I always looked for when that happened...ear infections and teething. Hope he starts sleeping for you again soon.

Maybe it was just the trip throwing him off. We'll cross our fingers! What solids is he eating?

Julie - I have three children. My youngest Katie is my refluxer. My first Ben was very colicy and is ADHD. My middle Jakob is pretty easy going. Katie had it bad as a baby no sleep for two years. She was on Nutramagin, Prevacid and Zantac. Thought we were through it but after age three it came back big time. After her scope she was put on Prevacid 45mg a day and mylanta as needed. Scope was in Sept. Showed damage in stomach and espophogus. It took about 7 months of medication and Reflux diet for her to start feeling better.
Yes, it is a roller coaster. It is lots of fun but I am ready for my ride to be over LOL.

He is doing the seperation anxiety thing, so maybe that is it. He is eating sweet potato, pear, peaches, butternut squash, avocado, and trying to choke down rice or oat cereal.

We went to the doc on Thurs and his ears were great, and no visible teething signs. I suppose that could have changed already.

He did feed about every 2-3 hours last night, so maybe growing, maybe helping me out with my supply, maybe just wanted to see mommy.

Julie- I'll bet you are ready for the ride to be over!

We still use size 1 nipples for her bottles. MIL says we should go up a size but I want her to work for the bottle so she wont get lazy nursing.

I am now pumping her last feeding of the night (9:30 pm) since she seems to have a rough time then. She takes the bottle without a problem (so far) ((Knock on wood)) I can pump 2.5-3 ounces at that time. We think it is low since she eats so much at 7 pm (nursing and 4 ounces veggie and 4 ounces cereal) that she is not pulling as much for her 9:30 feeding. We hope pumping will help produce more bm at that time.

is he maybe teething? I think Joslyn is ( you can see them ALL just below the skin) and she was cranky yesterday too.

good luck!
