Feeding a Reflux Baby
Do you do the feed less, more often? Do you notice a real difference from when you demand fed? I have tried both and I cannot tell if her reflux is worse when I demand feed, but I think it does. She comfort eats when her reflux is bad and I think that makes it worse. Thoughts?

This is our dd, Alessandra. Dx with GER 10/07. Ran the gamut with meds and now done with them (crossed fingers). Using magnesium, probiotics and prebiotic supplements. With the exception of teething and general sassy attitude, all is well now. They really CAN grow out of it!
We had to schedule-feed with all the meds - some had to be with food, some without, others not within a certain time frame of others.....

So we did more frequent feedings, just less volume. I believe to start we did 3 oz/3 hours and went up accordingly. Dreamfeeding was the only feeding we did without vomit, but there are many on here that dreamfeeding didn't work due to nighttime vomiting episodes and sleep apnea/breathing obstruction.

My dd comfort fed for the first 2 months, then slowed down. We also thickened her formula with oatmeal ceral to "help" with the vomit by weighing the formula down. Worked in theory as long as she wasn't having a bad flare-up. We thickened until she was 10 months old.

Every kid is different, so it's all trial and error. Have you talked to your MD about using Mylanta or Maloxx for breakthrough pain? We used Maalox Max up to 6 x's/day in the beginning (I forgot the dosage, but it was 2-3 ml's I think) and then as she got bigger, the dosage went up but frequency went down.

Renee, mother to Nicholas, born 4/18/08 with silent reflux, moderate laryngomalacia, Sandifer's Syndrome& suspected MSPI. On Neocate, Simply Thick and Prevacid. Also mother to Nathan, born 12/06/06, who had mild reflux the first few months.
I always just fed Nicholas when he was hungry. We ended up feeding smaller amounts more often as if we gave him too much at once, he would just throw up. He still takes mostly 5 oz at a time at 6 1/2 months, occasionally 6 at night.

Meridith
Mom to Ethan, born 4/23/08. Diagnosed with Reflux at about 1 month, started medicating with Zantac, which wasn't helpful for us. At about 2.5 months, we started on Prevacid, twice a day, and that is working much better.
Ethan is breastfed and has a few solids that he is enjoying very much.
I tried to do demand feeding with Ethan, but I found that our signals seemed messed up, so I eventually discovered that feeding every four hours was what worked best for him. He does this 24 hours a day and has been since about 4 months old.
