How long did you have to wait to see the GI?
Sorry guys for all the posts. As you can tell, I am not getting the answers from the pedi like I thought I would. I will be req. a referral tomorrow. I hope and pray I can get daughter into the GI tomorrow or early in the week. Is that not possible do you think? Is there usually a wait time for specialists? Days? Weeks?

Renee, mother to Nicholas, born 4/18/08 with silent reflux, moderate laryngomalacia, Sandifer's Syndrome& suspected MSPI. On Neocate, Simply Thick and Prevacid. Also mother to Nathan, born 12/06/06, who had mild reflux the first few months.
Sorry to disappoint you, but there is a wait for most. (Maybe you'll get lucky). We had to wait two to three weeks. I would recommend having yourself put on the cancellation list, if you're flexible. I also called weekly to see if anything opened up. It probably annoyed the receptionist, but I was always afraid they'd forget to call us. We still ended up having to wait though.

This is our dd, Alessandra. Dx with GER 10/07. Ran the gamut with meds and now done with them (crossed fingers). Using magnesium, probiotics and prebiotic supplements. With the exception of teething and general sassy attitude, all is well now. They really CAN grow out of it!
We got in with 2 days, but due to the ped calling the GE's office personally to get my dd in. If your ped is willing, I'd say try that to get in. Otherwise, it's usually a few weeks or months.

Andrea: Mom to 3 crazy girls!
Jackie (3/01)
Payton (9/03)
Abby (4/06) Prevacid 7.5mg (evening), MSPI, goats milk (currently trying to wean off Prevacid)
We also had our pedi call the GI and got in the next day. But usually there is a wait. Good luck!

Jessica, Mommy to Jedd, severe reflux, severe food and oral aversions, Finally G tube free!!! VSD repair 4-24-07 (open heart surgery), hypospadias, repaired 3 times and Ear tubes Visit Jedd at his CB site:
Our wait for an appt right after getting the referral was supose dto be like 12 weeks!!!!

do this: once your referall goes through call the GIs office and make an appt for the earliest spot avialiable. Then tell them you are willign to drip everythign and go in to be seen at a moments notice and that you want on the cancellation list. That shoudl ge tyou seen earlier.

I made a sick call after gettign our referall to see the pedi because Jedd was ill. It just soo happend to be durijn gJedd's feedign time and the Pedi saw what my DH and I went through at feeding times. After that she called the GIs office and told them they needed to see us ASAP. That was coupled with the fact that ALL of Jedd's nutrition was then goingi in the tube by that point. We needed to get seen.

All those things combined shoudl get you seen faster. Just when they call with the cancellation, you need to be willign to even be seen the same day sometimes. So be prepared. IF you turn down a cancellation spoit, they may make you wait until your appt time and not call you again for a cancellation.

Julie - I have three children. My youngest Katie is my refluxer. My first Ben was very colicy and is ADHD. My middle Jakob is pretty easy going. Katie had it bad as a baby no sleep for two years. She was on Nutramagin, Prevacid and Zantac. Thought we were through it but after age three it came back big time. After her scope she was put on Prevacid 45mg a day and mylanta as needed. Scope was in Sept. Showed damage in stomach and espophogus. It took about 7 months of medication and Reflux diet for her to start feeling better.
Hi there. I think it all depends. It took us 2 months to get in and then 2 more months for the scope. I think if there are serious issues and the ped. believes you need to be seen earlier then they can make a call. Unfortunately my ped. didn't think it was serious enough to make the call.

seamus mama
Seamus was diagnosed with Silent Reflux at 3 weeks. Now he is 14 months, on Prilosec and avoiding dairy, soy, egg. Still nursing. A lot !!!
Uggh. Our pedi said to wait until our baby was 6 months to get a referral for a GI..So we waited eagerly as Seamus continued taking Zantac, which did not calm his reflux..He was in pain for way too long. Once the pedi gave a referral, I found out that there was a 2 month waiting list to see the GI. It was really annoying. If our next baby has reflux I will demand a referral immediately. The pedis around here know nothing about reflux. I recommend making an appointment ASAP.
