Mom to Ethan, born 4/23/08. Diagnosed with Reflux at about 1 month, started medicating with Zantac, which wasn't helpful for us. At about 2.5 months, we started on Prevacid, twice a day, and that is working much better.
Ethan is breastfed and has a few solids that he is enjoying very much.
6 min check-up, Axid Question
Well, we just got home from Ethan's check-up, and developmentally, he is doing well. He weighed in at 14.5 lbs and 26 inches. This is a 1 pound increase from a month and a half ago. The doctor said that it was slower than expected and asked about his reflux. I explained and she suggested trying Axid, in addition to his current dose of Prevacid.

Is anyone else on Axid? She said to give .9ml twice a day, along with his Prevacid. Is this the correct way to give it, or should I wait a while between the two? What are your experiences?

Oops, it was a six month check-up, which thankfully lasted longer than six minutes. lol

Jessica, Mommy to Jedd, severe reflux, severe food and oral aversions, Finally G tube free!!! VSD repair 4-24-07 (open heart surgery), hypospadias, repaired 3 times and Ear tubes Visit Jedd at his CB site: www.caringbridge.org/visit/jedd
You need to separate the two medications. they shouldn't be given to gether.

We did Axid and Prilosec. I split them up. I did the Axid (2.5 cc is outr max but Jedd does 2cc) at around 7:30a.m. Jedd did the Prilosec around 11:00p.m. in his sleep. <[> I hope that hleps. I think they need to be gven at least 4 hours apart. The only reason why we did the Prilosec sooo late was we wanted his tummy as emepty as possible.

For us Axid is workign pretty well and we have been able to do just Axid for a while now.

Jedd wieghed around 27lbs when we were told we could do the 2.5cc. I am sure he coudl be higher but we were doing both so I didn't push it. He now weighs 29lbs and is still ok on that dose.

I am sure that at a younger age that Axid alone at that weight would have done nothign for him. So if the dose doens't seem to be working ask for a higher dose.

Thank you Jessica. I was almost sure that giving them together wouldn't work, and I knew one of the moms on here would know!

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
Maybe she meant prevacid as well as axid, not to actually do them together. kwim? She should have given you specific instructions though. I'd call the pharmacist or nurse and ask.

This is our dd, Alessandra. Dx with GER 10/07. Ran the gamut with meds and now done with them (crossed fingers). Using magnesium, probiotics and prebiotic supplements. With the exception of teething and general sassy attitude, all is well now. They really CAN grow out of it!
We did Axid for a while, along with Prilosec, then Prevacid. We also split them up, but as Axid can cause sedation, we did the PPI in the morning and the Axid at night. I'd ask the pharmacist when you pick it up, or call if you already have. If she wants 2 x's a day, maybe morning and eveing dose of the Axid and Prevacid midday?

We have been back and forth with axid since Cooper was first dx. It worked ok sometimes, but he was always on other meds and it was just an overload for his little body, but he was on a higher dose and younger. Glad you check up went well.
Check with your
doctor first!
