Alex's Mom
I went down to the duocal thread and saw you mentined that Alex likes Mac N Cheese. If you want to boost the cals in that mix in heavy cream in stead of the milk. You really won't taste the difference but the caloric content will be much higher.

Heavy cream has 50 cals for onl a mere 1/2 oz.

Yes, mac n' cheese is 'da bomb'!! You can mix soooo much stuff into it for hidden goodies. Heavy cream is the best. I have also used cream cheese and cottage cheese for cals. I've also mixed pureed veggies and meat, but not too much to lose the cheese flavor. You can also mix cream into any soups he might like, and thicken the soup with pureed meat and veggies, or add pasta. If he likes ice cream, too, you can make homemade hi cal stuff. (I stole ideas from Jedd's mommy). You can mix heavy cream, CIB, yogurt, blended fruit, any combination in a magic bullet and pour it into ice cube trays. Pop em out, thaw them a little....deeeellliiiissshhh!!! The ice cube trays were a life saver for me, as a mother of a picky eater. Little waste, cause you start with one or two, you can mix 4 food groups into one cube if you want to if you have a yummy base, like soup or whatever. There's always "something" in the freezer for her to eat in a pinch. If you ever need any ideas, just ask. Mom2Coy, Jessica, myself....many others. One of the defences against having a difficult feeder/slow weight gain child is to get as much as you can get in, in the most efficient manner possible. If you get two bites, they'd better be jam packed with fatty goodness, lol. ;)

Alex was dx with silent reflux at 3 weeks old. Previously on Prevacid SoluTabs 15mg daily, now on trial of no medication. Was thought to have oral aversion, saw feeding specialist who says he's just not interested in food--no aversion at all. Slowly coming around to food. 15 months, 19lbs, 7 oz.
Thanks ladies! I haven't checked the posting for a couple of days. Sorry to get back so late. This is bad but I am using the mac n cheese from a can, but I will start making it with heavy whipping cream from now on! What a great idea. I have tried to grind hot dog meat on top but Alex knows the difference. I'm just thankful to God that he is eating anything! Have a HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
