Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
Still taking a break from Pager (but hope everyone is well), but I am looknig for some charitable giving ideas for fmailies/kids if you have any....(inquire within)
Hi ladies --

I am sorry to not post...I am working on not focusing on Sebastian's issues and for me, that means no Pager. (It hasn't been to bad considering I am buried under a huge pile of papers I should be grading.) And I am more sorry to log on and solicit ideas, but I thought this was a wonderful place to get some...

You may already know (or you may not...I don't really talk about it on here) that I am a freelance writer (when I can be, anyway). I am currently working on a story about getting kids involved in charitable giving. The story will come out in a publication's holiday guide at the end of this year. The audience is parents of kids ages 0 -17. I am compiling a list of different ways to spark kids' interest in giving back to the community. Ideas can be anything from decorating bags to put sandwiches in for Meals on Wheels to walking dogs at a local animal shelter. Activities can be free. Parents can or cannot participate.

If you have any ideas and would like to share, PLEASE let me know!!!! You are probably all way more generous than me!

Hope everyone is doing well. Sebastian is doing about the same - got two new molars this week, is still on Neocate only, is still on 45mg of Prevacid a day, is still a beast (today, he pushed the infant car seat and base I had sitting in my dining room ALL AROUND THE HOUSE like it was nothing). He is also obsessed with kicking things around the house like a little soccer player. I love him.

Thanks for any ideas you can share! I appreciate them and your time! Hugs to the little ones.

I know...I am the worst typist in the world and am too lazy to proofread unless I am submitting something to 1) my students or 2) my editors. I set a fine example. :)

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
We always do Samaritan's purse at Christmas. It's the charity that sends shoe boxes to kids all over the place. I always let Morgan fill a shoe box for a girl and a boy her age. She gets to take it down to the front at church with all the other kids.

The school chorus goes to nursing homes to sing to the elderly.

Me and Morgan used to do Meals on Wheels before she started school. The ladies I delivered to absolutely loved her! We still have a few gifts they gave her.

Every year we get an Angel off the Christmas tree (located in many stores in our city) and buy gifts for the kids. We get the Angels in our towns so we know they are going to families in the community. I explain to Brandon that these presents will go to kids who wouldn't get to open gifts on Christmas if someone didn't choose an Angel. Even last year when we were opening our gift Brandon even thought about the little boy we bought a present for and wondered if he liked it. Brought tears to my eyes.

I really hope this is making sense. My head is filled with snot and it is cloudy my ability to word this. Oh ya, not to mention Aubrey in the other room throwing an all out fit...ambien take me away. Not to the looney bin tho!

This is our dd, Alessandra. Dx with GER 10/07. Ran the gamut with meds and now done with them (crossed fingers). Using magnesium, probiotics and prebiotic supplements. With the exception of teething and general sassy attitude, all is well now. They really CAN grow out of it!
As kids, my brother and I always picked out something that WE would want under the tree (price was under $20) to give to our church's Christmas gift giving (I think it was Catholic Charities or something.)

I've also done the setting aside $ from each allowance to donate once a month over a year to a charity that I got to choose (I think that was early teenage years)

I have a few other ideas, but monkey is awakening...I'll try to catch you on facebook. Meghann

We started doing Operation Christmas Child this year, which is either like Samaritan's Purse or is the same orgnaization. You fill a shoebox with items and it gets sent overseas. We also do the local food drives and coat drives. Sorry I can't be more original! Wait, we also "adopted" a compassion international child. It is $32 a month and pays for food, healthcare, and education. You can also give extra money for birthdays and Christmas, or give money to purchase family gifts (such as livestock that will "give back" to the family). To get kids involved, they can write letters to the child, send pictures or artwork, or help earn the money to send gifts or the monthly money.

Adriane Reese 05/16/07; seemingly healthy when born; diagnosed with MSPI, severe Reflux, Apnea, Ashtma, Epilepsy, and severe food allergies(rice, corn, milk, soy, eggs, oats, wheat, beef, chicken, squash, pumpkin, avocado, etc.);On apnea monitor, seems to be tolerating RCF w/carbohydrate mixed in; on Zyrtec, Xopenex, Prevacid
I am a cheer coach and we were tired of the girls spending on each other every year when there are so many more people out there. So, we took them to dinner and adopted an angel. These are 15-18 yo and they loved shopping for a little boy and especially the little girl. They all spent around $5 some spent more if they had it. But that way it wasn't a financial burden on anyone. We have done it ever since. In the past year or so we have adopted someone from our community instead of the city close to us. That way we felt like they were making a difference in our own town. -Amanda

Everyone, these are such great ideas. You should see the crap I was trying to come up with on my own. That's the thing - I didn't know what would actually "work" - but now I have some real-life experiences to include in my article. Yay! The best part is that you live all over the place...so my article will be very well balanced in terms of interviewees. I will need to contact all of you who suggested on here - I hope you don't mind being quoted! Thanks again!

Mom to Ethan, born 4/23/08. Diagnosed with Reflux at about 1 month, started medicating with Zantac, which wasn't helpful for us. At about 2.5 months, we started on Prevacid, twice a day, and that is working much better.
Ethan is breastfed and has a few solids that he is enjoying very much.
I'm probably a little late on getting in on this, but one thing my church growing up did was to put together Thanksgiving baskets of food and household items, and then the teens and a couple of adults would go and deliver to the families. It was great to see the people who were so appreciative, and each year more teens got involved.

The nursing home in our town has a Christmas tree in there lobby for their residents. It is decorated with tags listing either a male or female resident and a few gift suggestions, most suggestions are simple items like hunting magazines, cologne or aftershave, word search books, yarn for knitting etc. Even though Rayna was only 6 months at last Christmas we went and picked two tags (one for her & one for me) and we went shopping, this is going to be our Christmas tradition. Some of these residents don't have any famliy and this may be the only gift they receive.
Check with your
doctor first!
