Everyone update post
Hey everyone. I have been stuffed up and miserable so I haven't been responding much. I've been reading when I can. Nolan has been sick to. We had some crazy weather lately (snow yuck!) and the sickie have offically landed at our door. The other baby that comes to daycare is feeling pretty crappy to. Nolan has a cough and runny nose like a faucet. I feel better this am and Nolan wasn't coughing all night so maybe we are over the hump of it?!?!?!? The people that bring their kids to daycare know how it is. But it is the same for me having a daycare. The kids bring so much junk in. I sanitize as much as possible but it just keeps spreading. Too many kids in one place. The bestest news is that he hasn't had a reflux flare with all this going on. At least he hasn't had acid breath or spit up. Monday is the next med wean.

I can't wait to hear from you all. I love reading about what everyone is doing in one place.

Adriane Reese 05/16/07; seemingly healthy when born; diagnosed with MSPI, severe Reflux, Apnea, Ashtma, Epilepsy, and severe food allergies(rice, corn, milk, soy, eggs, oats, wheat, beef, chicken, squash, pumpkin, avocado, etc.);On apnea monitor, seems to be tolerating RCF w/carbohydrate mixed in; on Zyrtec, Xopenex, Prevacid
Adriane is doing a little better. She had a heck of an allergic reaction on Sunday night. I still think it must be the jack-o-lanterns that we made on Saturday night at the kitchen table, this was after she was in bed. Anyway, she was worse last night when we got home and it just kept getting worse. Her hives were huge whelps and she kept scratching at her legs. I called the ped on call and finally gave her a dose of her steroid since the benadryl and cream weren't touching it. Seemed to be better this morning, after a restless night of sleep for all involved. I am going to call this morning and check on her and if they are getting worse again I am taking her back to the doc!

Anyway, she seems to be doing better food wise. She is back to her regular formula. The neocate was causing worse diarrhea and horrible gassiness. So, I guess we can't try the different formula afterall. I thought it would be better since we took a break from it for 6 months or more but I guess she won't be able to take any other formula. We are just glad that she is eatign again and we don't have to do TPN.

We did find a Ronald McDonald House by the hospital and I am going to call them and our area one to see if they are aware of any organization that will help with our flight or rental car when we go to Colorado.

I hope everyone is doing better. -Amanda

Picture: This is what happens when you raise a kid on health food and they get ahold of a Coke! Bad mom, that soda is NOT on the reflux diet.
UPDATE: Isaiah is now 12 and off meds! He is doing great, eating again and hopefully will be catching up in the growing department. I am still in the "hoping it sticks" phase, but we're so happy that he's better!
Hi, guys. We're doing ok, Isaiah is hanging in there and isn't having as much trouble with his reflux at night, which is good. Our cat is home but still very sick, we're having to force feed her water with a syringe and she is refusing all food and water. If she won't eat, back to the vet she goes...and I don't know what else we can do for her! Can animals get oral aversion? On top of that, Rachel's pet fish ("Caruso") died last night. So we just had a very sad fish funeral, and I am pretty concerned that we'll be having a kitten funeral soon if our kitty doesn't start eating again. Not a good week! But the kids are really hanging in there, God is good and they haven't lost sight of that. Hope everyone's kiddos are doing well! Glad to hear that Adriane and Nolan are doing OK. Sorry about the cough...sheesh, I am just praying that this winter will be better than last for everyone, virus wise.

Andrea: Mom to 3 crazy girls!
Jackie (3/01)
Payton (9/03)
Abby (4/06) Prevacid 7.5mg (evening), MSPI, goats milk (currently trying to wean off Prevacid)
Photobucket
So Abby is doing well and we started to wean her Prevacid (just morning dose) about 2 months ago. She is still on her evening dose of 7.5mg. I have noticed at times she seems to choke and then cough, kwim? Today she did it during lunch when she walked into the kitchen (she was eating at the playroom table). I have noticed her do it other times but it doesn't seem to bother her. Do you think I am being paranoid or could it be reflux?

Sorry to hear that others are sick. Boo to the winter germs! Sorry to hear about the fish and kitty. I hope kitty has a speedy recovery!

We have been on the Reglan for three full days. I'm not noticing any changes, but I'm not noticing any side effects, either. He has his upper GI on Monday...let's hope we get some answers...seeing my son stick his whole fist in his mouth to vomit is getting to me

Ugh, Donnie has had a URI for about a week now, his second since Sept. His sleep has been extremely poor waking all night long. Also I was very hopeful that he was outgrowing the MSPI. He went a couple of days drinking milk with breakfast but the diarrhea came back so we have him off of milk again, maybe one day he can drink it. We are still doing Maalox as needed. About once or twice a week he gets stomach pains that cause him to cry uncontrollably to the point of where he is inconsolable. About an hour after giving him Maalox is fine, so I am going to mention that to his ped next time. -Liz

Currently drinking Elecare vanilla 30cal/oz and breastmilk.
Meds: Nexium 10mg 2x daily. Carafate as needed, miralaxx as needed, probiotics daily
Cooper is doing ok w/ the dosage cut. He is not sleeping as well and is coughing a lot, but doesn't have the runny nose, so it makes me think reflux. He has been sleeping w/ us part of the night again, and it has not been fun. He isn't screaming in pain, but he's not acting the same as before either. not sure what it is. He had his first bottle of elecare, and it seemed to be ok. Wow, he just really choked in my lap, that was defiantly reflux! Not sure what to do.

Sorry you guys have had the junk Amber. That is no fun.
Sorry Adriane had such a bad reaction, that is so scary, but I am glad she's doing better now. Glad to hear you were able to get intouch with the ronald mcdonald house
Erica, sorry you are goinf through a tough time with the pets. I often think that God gives us pets as children so that we can learn about death and how to cope with it. When my dog died as a child, I was heartbroken for days, but it certainly prepared me for the deaths of loved ones I would face in the years to come.
What Abby is doing sounds just like what Cooper has done since we cut his dose. Makes me think it is probably reflux and not just a coincidence. Urg!
Sorry donnie has been sick. that is the hard part about this time of year for sure. Have you tried lactose free milk? Just a thought, hopefully one day he will be able to drink it.

I have 3 boys, youngest has gerd, 18 months of no sleep. Prevacid 2x/7.5 mg thinking of switching to prilosec.
Hi everyone. My 5 yr old (no ger) was learning to blow bubbles with gum and a couple times blew the gum out of his mouth onto the floor and then put it back into his mouth- ugh! I was so out of it I did not take the gum away. One week later he had pneumonia. Two weeks later his older brother has it. Right now I am fretting that my 18 mo. David will get it- my ger guy. He is napping now- very unusual to nap this early, this long. The last two nights he has woken up, tried to latch, could not nurse becz of stuffy nose, I think, then whine and cry. Wakes up everyone. Goes back to sleep. Then one or two hours later, the same routine. Learn from me and just keep the bubble gum away from 5 yr olds!

Rory has had a cold pretty much since she started daycare. Her cough is getting worse, especially at night. But with all the hacking and gagging, she has not thrown up once!! I think I can say that she has outgrown her reflux!!!!! :)

She has been off of meds for a couple months, and I no longer hear her refluxing. She is a piglet too. The daycare teachers said they can see her getting chunkier in her face. We had to sign two notes at daycare for injuries this week and it's only Tuesday. HA! Her face is a mess of bruises. She is an absolute terror on the bus. Today she was throwing a tantrum in my lap and headbutted me in the mouth. I proceeded to bleed, and fight back tears. Imagine how it looked. The bus people probably think I beat her.....and seriously, I'm anti-spanking but have thoughts of throwing her out the bus window most days, lol.

She is drinking chocolate CIB milk in a cup with breakfast, no more bottle at daycare (drinks milk from open cup), then she gets a bottle of formula on the bus and a bottle of formula at bedtime. The wean off formula is going slow because she won't drink plain milk from the bottle, and I NEED the bottle on the bus. It doesn't spill when she throws it and she won't drink from a no spill cup. But two bottles a day is considered a success for us. I'm so proud of how far she's come in a few short months!!

This is our dd, Alessandra. Dx with GER 10/07. Ran the gamut with meds and now done with them (crossed fingers). Using magnesium, probiotics and prebiotic supplements. With the exception of teething and general sassy attitude, all is well now. They really CAN grow out of it!
On the reflux front, not much to report. Allie's been doing well, but had her first face plant that scraped her up (downhill and a gust of wind will really trip you up.) So she looks like I took an SOS pad to her face, but she's a tough cookie and was over it in a few minutes.

As for sick pets, my Bella girl had a full day of nearly constant vomit that ended in blood. After a trip to the vet and a miserable 3 days of no food (she's 145 lbs, so she really does need to eat to cart her carcass around!) she finally ate last night and seems a little perkier.

Hope all the sickies pass quickly and relatively painlessly...
