Hospitalised for two weeks in September, fed through ng tube.
sorry ..more rice cereal Qs....
Sooooo the rice cereal is really helping my little guy. He is much more calm and rythmic and his suck is way more organised and he is not choking AS MUCH and he is finishing bottles!! Yay! all good stuff.. BUT...... Im having to put a tsp to each oz PLUS the gaviscon. I look down in the bottle and it just seems like so much in there.. we finished a whole box of the stuff in three days! If I put any less its not as thick and doesnt "work" as well. My question- if I ask the GP( and he knows NOTHIGN about reflux and just told me to go ahead with the cereal as long as Hunter is happy) for thickener does it work just as well than cereal ? I thought the artificial thickener liquifies in the stomach (at least thats what I read on the "thick it" web site FAQ) Oh gosh I just dont know,he seems to be ok with it so far and is still pooing but it just seems like so much for his little tummy in each bottle..any experience with this? (Also here in the UK we dont get pediatricians or GI s. All issues are dealt with on a referal basis, oh dont get me started on that ..There is no consistancy with his treatment , I feel so lost in the system sometimesand I HATE the fact I cant call a specialist and ask a question like this!!!!) Thanks!

This is our dd, Alessandra. Dx with GER 10/07. Ran the gamut with meds and now done with them (crossed fingers). Using magnesium, probiotics and prebiotic supplements. With the exception of teething and general sassy attitude, all is well now. They really CAN grow out of it!
Not to worry about the amount - we were told by our GE to do 3 tsp of oatmeal cereal per ounce of formula (basically concrete in a bottle). We had to skip the rice due to constipation issues. If you're concerned, there's also another thickener I know of called Simply Thick. We didn't have to use either of the thickeners, and the oatmeal added some much needed calories for us. HTH!

Actually I just went back and read the responses to my first post about the cereal and think my question might have been answered already. I guess I m just asking - is a rounded tsp per oz too much?? Sorry for babbling!!
